Pirate Rooms at CBR, worth it?

I'll be taking my oldest son for a daddy/son trip over his eighth birthday in January of 2018. We showed him pictures of the pirate themed rooms at CBR before we did any research on them and he fell in love. Now we're finding that they're more expensive, AND furthest away from the main building! Personally, I'd rather stay at POFQ but have never experienced CBR and am wondering if it's going to be worth it to stay so far away from the food court and main pool. Is the theming worth the increased price and distance?

<--- That's him right there when he was about 18 months. He's six now.

You could stay at CBR and nix the whole pirate room for a regular room. Better yet, use the extra cash to book preferred so you are near the main pool and food court. There is a whole piratey theme there, and a kids splash center and that may work good. My boys enjoyed CBR at that age. Actually at 8, he is old enough to probably appreciate wherever you go. BTW we didn't stay in the pirate rooms. We were in Barbados area, and truth be told they ended up wanting to spend more time in the quiet pool, lol. They do really enjoy POR as well. Never stayed at POFQ, amenities are a little less there than POR, probably due to the smaller size, which those that go there like.

We did it when my son was 5. The distance wasn't THAT big of a deal. Of course, we went when we didn't do refillable mugs. We also went in July, so you won't be dealing with the heat. The walk is nice, though.
I guess it also depends on how often you really need the food court and the feature pool. Given that it is January, you may not want the pool that much.
There are multiple bus stops which can be a pain BUT at least you won't be far from one even in the pirate rooms.

The beds are double beds and some people think they are not comfortable. They were fine for us.

It was worth it for us to do once. (And to look at the bright side, the pirate rooms are usually easy to get when they release discounts)

We were "upgraded" to a pirate room in January because they had overbooked the regular rooms. Honestly, I didn't like it. It was way too far from the food and main pool. Our refillable drink mugs were pretty much useless because it would have taken us 30 minutes just to walk to the food court and back to get a drink. Plus, our room was musty and not clean. We had stayed in the newly refurbished non-pirate rooms about a year before that and they were much nicer. All that being said, my 2 and 6 year olds LOVED the rooms. I also didn't find the beds to be uncomfortable, but I was so tired every night I probably could have slept out on the grass and slept well. :)

Compared to the Royal Rooms at POR, I think the Pirate Rooms really are pretty bland. But I am sure an 8yo will think differently.

Add to that the poor location of the rooms and that the only thing I really like about the CBR is the pool (an 8yo would love it too)...but your going in January...and I can't make a case for the Pirate Room...except...8yo may love it.

Have not stayed at POFQ, but I know I prefer POR to CBR.

I think it's just a matter of how you feel and if you want to pay the extra. 2 years ago we were "upgraded" as well from a standard room booking. DD6 and DS4 were over the moon in the pirate ship beds and with the whole decor. DH and I, who are like big kids, loved it too. We didn't have the mugs so that didn't bother us. We were there in July and the quiet pool was always very quiet and pretty much just us in it which we liked because DS at the time was not sure about pools and liked to stay on steps and it worked perfect. We walked up front and even DS4 did good with the walk.

Worth it, NO. They redecorated them because no one wanted to stay there. My room looked at POP Century food court, wish I could have just walked there. I would never stay in them again. I think, especially since rest of resort is all new decor in rooms with Queen beds and some with bunks, these should be discounted.

While the idea was great they feel like rooms that were never finished. Cute furniture, brown. Wood carpet, brown. Walls, brown with virtually no decor. Bathroom, brown. Brown brown brown. It had potential if they added some more decor and color but they feel unfinished. Beds are fulls and hard foam type mattress like a bunk.

Now if you have no interest in the main pool (which to me would be a major reason to stay there) or the food court and main hub - it would be fine location wise. We ended up just driving to all the parks and other resorts to eat. It is a Disney resort where I think a car is a must.

WHy not show your sons some photos of the rooms in other parts of CBR or POFQ...the room theme is the ONLY thing that could be "worth it" and only if it is that important. Wouldn't be worth it for us, but I have a jaded teenager now :)

FYI, those aweful bedspreads aren't on the beds anymore, so that's a plus! lol

I'm doing a mom & son trip next month at CBR but in a regular room. I just didn't want to be so far away from the main building even though my DS loved the look of the Pirate rooms. I have visited the resort before but never stayed there, so I do know the pirate theme is in other areas of the property to get his "pirate fix" so to speak. I would suggest a preferred room at CBR for you and your DS.

We stayed there, in Pirate Rooms, 2 years ago. My kids enjoyed the rooms a lot, but I also don't think the trip would have been any less enjoyable if we had stayed in another room, we weren't in the room a lot. I would never pay extra to stay in them again, they weren't that great! The steering wheels on the headboards were missing "pegs" (2 in total), which left nails sticking out! That bothered me. And the rooms were very far from the main building. We drove for our vacation, and every time we went to the main building we drove. Except once, we decided to walk - and this was in July so it was very hot and we were all miserable by the time we got to the food court The spread out resort also made the bus time for pick up / drop off very long - where if you stayed in buildings close to the main building (in the middle of resort) you wouldn't have such a long time on the bus. The pool and food court were great though!!
