Neither Pirate nor I slept too well last night. He is dreading flying back to work and leaving his family and I am dreading him going AND the 10 hour drive! His Mears Shuttle People have totally reassured us of the time and that they KNOW where to pick him up! We get all the stuff packed up and ready to load in the car. It sure seems that we are taking more things than we brought with us!!
The kids and I walk him down to the clubhouse where he is supposed to be picked up bye the shuttle and get ready to say our last goodbyes! We know we will see him in a week, but it is exceptionally hard on all of us. The kids try to tease and make light of things and Pirate wrestles with them, and smiles at me wistfully while the clock ticks way entirely too fast! This week has gone so fast and has seemed so rushed, although we have created great family memories.
I look at my watch and realize that Mears is late and call them pretending to be his secretary to find out where they are! They say the driver is just 5 minutes away. The hugs begin and I can see it in Pirates eyes that this goodbye is really hard for him! I smile and wink, tell him will see him in 6 days! He loads up and waves goodbye. The kids and I head back to see that Commander Brad and his family are all loaded up!
Fifteen minutes later so are we! We turn in our keys and head out hitting the open road!! I know I will be home in 10 hours! I even though the week was GREAT, I am ready to be at home!
Open road here we come! Open road there it goes!! Bestest friend Val saw a spin-off Disney store that she wanted to stop in. So we stopped! Unfortunately, we didnt find it so we hit the open road again!
Open road here we come! Open road there it goes!! We hit bumper to bumper traffic!! It amazes me that construction goes on during the weekend, especially on such a highly trafficked holiday vacation!! The 5 miles of construction takes almost an hour to traverse it! I spy the open road!!!!
Open road here we come! Open road there it goes!! A car accident has traffic backed up further than the eye can see. I love the kids perspective on this, Its ok Mom, we wanted to see the end of Holes before we stopped anyway! What is it with this movie?? I KNOW they have seen it at least 10 times on this trip alone!!!
Open road here we come!! Open road there it goes!! Lets make a long story short, 7 potty stops, 2 shopping stops, 2 eating stops and all the construction, the accident, and 13 & half hours later, we pull in the driveway! The drive should only take 10 hours, but we were blessed by extending the trip even longer!!
Pirate has called and checked on me, many times throughout out the drive and waited up for me to get home before he would sleep!
After I crawl in bed, I relive the entire trip! The smiles, the throw-up, the laughing, the silliness, the memories that were made, the moments that can never be recreated and I have come up with a few conclusions.
