Planning my DD5th's bday party for this sat. I have lots of neat stuff to decorate. (fish nets, wall murals, pirate costumes, hats, etc..) We are planning a party from 1-3:30. We're starting with a pirate necklace craft. Then we have 2 pinates (due to the large group of kids). Then we'll open gifts and have cake/ice cream. Do you think we'll need 2 1/2 hrs or any ideas what else we could do to fill the time. I'm expecting 26 kids right now and we're not sure on 13 others. Large groups don't bother me I'm use to 12 kids on my own. I have 4 adults and 2 teens to help out too. I just don't want them to get bored. Wondering if they'd like coloring pirate ship pictures if we need to fill in empty time. I'm clearing the family room - daycare room so they won't have much to play with. It will be party only stuff. I'm sure we'll end up in other areas of the house but hoping to spend most of the time downstairs. I guess we'll see it's a lot of kids in one room. We may need to seperate and do 1 pinata on each floor and split into two groups. I think I'm more excited than my DD. I even talked my DH into dressing up as a pirate to greet the parents and kids when they get here. Can't wait to share the pics on facebook with people.

Wow! You're much braver than I am!!! LOL 26 to 40 children?!?!? But this sounds like such a fun party!! :teeth:

It's been a "few" years since I had a bday party for a 5 year old but as I recall they were usually too hyped up to sit & color pictures. And whatever I planned always seemed to take less time than I'd anticipated. I remember one year a well-placed blow on the first swing took out our pinata...so that lasted about 5 minutes from start to finish. LOL

I'd plan a few games if possible, although you might need to break them into groups & have them rotate through them...kind of like "stations" at school. How about a "Pin the hat on the pirate" or "Pin the X on the treasure map" kind of thing? It's a shame you have to be indoors (I wouldn't want that many children running through my house) because a treasure map to follow would be cool.

I'm not feeling very creative this morning so I did a quick Google search on pirate games. There are many good ideas out there...although some won't work due to the size of your group and/or the weather. Still...it's worth taking a look at them: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source...q=birthday+party+games+pi&fp=79a46ede2c2a175d
