We have been planning to go to the pirate museum, but I have started worrying about my DD6. For those who have gone, is this place appropriate for a six year old? How about my DS10? Are the pirate wenches appropriately clothed? pirate:

Thanks for your help.

We are going to the pirate museum too. It has it's own web site that tells you all about it and you can take a virtual tour of it too. I think it would be good for a 6 year old. I'm sorry I'm not sure of the exact web site, but you could use a search engine and find it I'm sure. It seemed like a good family place to me. if i happen onto that site again I'll send you a note to let you know what it was.

My four and five year old went. We had a good time. They were a little spooked and we didn't take nearly the time I would have liked to reading the information.

Its a little expensive, but not bad for a tourist trap. Only takes an hour or so and is within walking distance from the ship (even for my four year old). Print the map, though. Once you get close, you can't miss it (big purple building), but getting close might be tricky.

DH and I went there on the 18th of this month and really enjoyed it. It took us about an hour and 15 minutes. I took time to read all the displays. It was very well done, the exhibits are more museum quailty than tourist trap quailty.
No pirate wenches, nothing offensive. The guy outside on the sidewalk dressed as a pirate and taking pics of people in the stocks was a hoot!
It was a little pricey, but we were glad we went.

One display showed a pirate that was "made king of his own island"
and DH and I both thought right away of Jack Sparrow....saying, "There will be no living with her now!"

Pirate wenches dressed appropraitely?? I have never seen pirate wenches not dressed appropriately. Do you mean naked?? Because pirate wenches are usually dressed like they were in Pirates of the Carribean. And Pirate Wenches definilty had more clothes on than most women and girls of today that's for sure. I would think that the pirate wenches would think that our generation does not dress appropriately.

Thanks everybody. I think we will definately check this out.

When we went we actually had a guided tour with a "pirate". My DH had a good time there, but the rest of us didn't enjoy it as much. Or at least that is what I thought at the time. My DS (who was 6 at the time) still talks about going there and how funny the pirate was. Here is a link to a picture of DD in the gallows.

Okay, maybe this will work now.

bummer it wont let me look at the picture, says site forbidden. pirate:

That's the same pirate that escorted us inside and described the museum... he was a hoot! I could have spent all day listening to him talk :sunny:

We went in May 2003 with DD(then5) and DD(then2) and they both loved it. There is only one semi-scary part where some children might be unnerved during the walkthrough. There is a short "show" where it gets dark and there are cannons firing. Pirates of the Caribbean ride is scarier, imo, but it's something to be aware of. My two were not even phased, others may react differently. :)
