hardly. Many classics are being kept alive. However, TSI was not a popular location any longer. We rarely took the time to go over there. The available activities on TSI had dwindled due to fear of lawsuits. So Disney decided to make some changes to the island to make it more relevant to today's kids. In general the changes seem like a good idea to me.
Yeah Im looking forward to the Pirates island. Im 24 and barely know who Tom Sawyer is. I look at my nephew and think "Gees he isnt gonna have a clue". So yeah its a good idea. You can ask any little kid or adult for that matter who Jack Sparrow is and they go OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH hes the coolest pirate ever! This is when you know its time for an upgrade.
You couldn't be more wrong. First off, I don't think Jack Sparrow is the cooles pirate ever. I've never seen POTC 1 or 2, and wont see 3,4,5 - 100. I could care less who Jack Sparrow or any of the other pirates are.
Secondly, it is sad that you barely know who Tom Sawyer is, and that your nephew doesn't have a clue. Perhaps you and he could spend some quality time reading Mark Twain's classic story together.
The fact is that TSI is in FRONTIERLAND. To my knowledge, there were never any pirates in the American frontier. Not only is disney ruining this attraction, they are altering the theme of an entire land. Desecrating the Pirates ride was one thing, but this is pathetic.
It is obvious that in this day and age, Disney will do anything and everything to milk every last penny out of out of their lower than average films, etc. The way I see it, they could have used the wasted space in the Big Thunder Ranch area to "imangneer" something new with a pirate theme. This "update" to TSI is going to be a disaster. They have no way to manage the amount of time spent by guests on the island. Access to the island is limited, and so is capacity on the island. This could create one of the longest wait times for any attraction at the park. And no FastPass!
Have fun!
TSI doesnt have to make sense. TSI is on its own. ^_^
Just because your not a POTC fan, doesnt mean you can just go around dissing people on it. Some people are true fans of POTC. Some people are not. Im not really a big fan of it but still, i love HSM and i will defend that to the ground!
at first, i didnt really like the idea, but judging that there are so many people who live it, i think it be a great idea.
Whether or not you have seen the POTC movies, hundreds of millions of others have. I have four sons who think these movies are great. I happen to think they are very well done as well. You couldn't be more wrong. First off, I don't think Jack Sparrow is the cooles pirate ever. I've never seen POTC 1 or 2, and wont see 3,4,5 - 100. When my DS15 was 13, he performed speaking competitions with memorized lines from Tom Sawyer. He was Huck Finn and his partner was Tom. But Tom Sawyer Island bores him and all of my other sons. The TSI of yesterday might have been a cool place in its time, but it does not compare to the types of entertainment options available to kids today. You can complain all you want about the sentimental value of a classic, but TSI is past its prime IMO and in desperate need of some kind of upgrade. The POTC movie franchise gave Disney a reason to do this upgrade. And last time I looked, there were two ships that sailed on the Rivers of America around TSI - the Mark Twain and the Columbia. The MT represents Frontierland while the Columbia ties in with New Orleans Square and Adventureland. IMO the Rivers of America is just as much a part of New Orleans Square and Adventureland as Frontierland.Secondly, it is sad that you barely know who Tom Sawyer is, and that your nephew doesn't have a clue. Perhaps you and he could spend some quality time reading Mark Twain's classic story together.

Last time I checked the Walt Disney Company was a business with a responsibility to its shareholders. If the Disney Company does not make a profit, there will be no more park improvements. And while some of their movies have been lower than average (as with all producers), many have been far above. Look at the top grossing movies release in 2006 here www.imdb.com/Sections/Years/2006/top-grossing. Notice the top two? That would be POTC 2 and Cars - both Disney movies. It is obvious that in this day and age, Disney will do anything and everything to milk every last penny out of out of their lower than average films, etc.
That would be a good idea. Better yet, imagineer something completely new.The way I see it, they could have used the wasted space in the Big Thunder Ranch area to "imangneer" something new with a pirate theme.
Really? Lets see if the demand picks up this summer for access to the island. I will bet you a Dole Whip that it will increase signficantly. This "update" to TSI is going to be a disaster.
From what I understand DLR will provide more rafts to increase capacity to the island. Makes sense to me.Access to the island is limited, and so is capacity on the island. This could create one of the longest wait times for any attraction at the park. And no FastPass!

Im sorry to be so blunt but that reply was just cruel. Everything is based on opinion and I felt like you were totally attacking me there and I would appreciate it if you would stop.
How was my reply cruel? I don't think it was cruel in any way. It was (to quote you) "blunt". There was no attack on you like the others here seem to suggest. I simply suggested that you read Tom Sawyer with your nephew. Is there any harm in that. Mark Twain was one of the greatest storytellers in American history. His works all take place during the early days of this country. I don't disagree that TSI needed an update. I disagree with the pirate thing in Frontierland.
If "keep our little Disneyland board friendly" means I have to agree with everyone, forget it. And for the record. I am also part of your "generation". True, I am a Disney purist and would prefer that they didn't alter every attraction to fit the fad of the day, but I will not be afraid to state my opinion on such changes.
I dealt with people like you last year over the POTC thing. I have the right to state my opinion here, just like you. And one thing I have developed from my many years on the DISboards is a thick skin. So if you all want to gang-up on me, I say BRING IT! Otherwise, get over yourselves.
Things like "you couldn't be more wrong" and "maybe you and your nephew should try reading the books" and looking at this post "I dealt with people like you last year" This things are rude and not appreciated. I have been friends with the people on this particular board for a while, and whether you agree or not, you did come across as rude and made the people here feel like you are attacking them. It should not surprise me though, I posted a question on a different board, and you were one of the people who responded with a very nasty reply. You have every right to state your opinion, but state it as such, without attacking the people posting on these boards.
