Pirate Cruise

I'm thinking of sending my 2 boys (8 and 5) on the Pirate Cruise from Grand Floridian this January. I think they'll love it. Does anyone have any info or feedback on this activity?

Most important, I know it departs from the Grand Floridian (and there seems to be another one departing from Port Orleans Riverside), but is the cruise available to kids staying offsite? We're renting a house in Emerald Island Resort, just outside of WDW -- just don't know whether you have to be a resort guest to take the Pirate Cruise.

Yes anyone may go. I don't know anything about the Port Orleans, but my DS (5) did the one from the Yacht and Beach club an loved it. They sailed around the Different countries in Epcot (on a morning when it was closed). It was soo cool.

Anyway, last September my DSs went on the pirate cruise from the Grand Floridian. They were DS4 and DS9 at the time. They absolutely LOVED it and would like to do it again. I was a bit nervous, but figured since they were together, they'd be "ok". Well, they were much more than "ok".

When you get to the dock, you fit them with life jackets - the solid foam, water skiing, type - very sturdy and reassuring to me. They board that pontoon boat and away they sail, saying "RRRR" and all. I know they did some type of treasure hunt and light lunch. The also got a bag of "trinkets" - my DSs enjoyed "visiting" with their friends after the cruise for about 15 minutes as they checked out their "loot".

Anyway, my DSs really enjoyed themselves and I'd recommend it to anyone interested.

Thanks, Nuzmom! It sounds like my boys will love it too. I think I'll surprise them with it; I'm thinking of doing it on what otherwise would be a relaxing non-park day for us.

We're going in January; I assume they run this pirate cruise year-round?

And, of course, GO STEELERS!!!!!

The Bayside Marina near the Yacht Club also offers a special Albatross Treasure Cruise for children ages 4-10 -- Children will wear bandannas as they follow clues and sail to many exotic "ports of call" around Crescent Lake and Epcot looking for treasure. During the voyage, children will hear a reading of "The Legend of the Albatross." At the final port of call, children will have lunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cookie, and juice box, and will split up the "buried treasure." Held Wednesdays 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Children must be potty trained -- no pull-ups. Price is $28.17 plus tax per child. Reservations are recommended. Call 407-WDW-DINE.

Port Orleans Riverside offers the Sassagoula River Adventure Cruise. Children travel along the Sassagoula River to learn the "Jester's" way of life. Along the way they explore the Sassagoula River and finally meet the character known as the Jester. The cruise is held Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. for children ages 4-12. Cost is $28.17 plus tax per child. Call 407-WDW-PLAY to make reservations.

Island of the Caribbean Pirate Adventure - For children ages 4-10 (must be potty trained) -- young adventurers, wearing pirate bandanas, will board a boat to sail the Ports of the Caribbean, just like Captain Jack! They will be told the story of Old Port Royale and of the pirates that used to sail the waters. They will find props and signs leading to treasure. Once they recover the treasure, they will say to Fort Cay and trade for some grub (lunch). When they return to Old Port Royale, they will unlock the treasure chest and bounty will be shared by all. Operates Tuesdays from 9:30am - 11:30am. $28.17 per child pus tax. Lunch: Peanut Butter and Jelly Uncrustables, Gummy Bears, Gold Fish Treats, and Apple Juice Box.

I called last week and booked my children for the cruise out of CBR on Oct. 31. They asked for a CC to hold the reservation and it would be $60.00.

I asked how many openings were left and I was told 6.

I thought I read somewhere that pirate Mickey ears were included.

Is this true for the pirate cruise out of the Grand Floridian. If not, should I buy a pair for DS to wear or will they get something? We were thinking of doing this as well.

What's your thought about sending a lone child on? My DS is 4yrs - and is VERY friendly. I think he would really love this, but his DD is too young. Should I let DS go it alone?
