Pirate Cruise @ GF / Son too old??

My son will be turning 9 during our trip, but loves pirates. So I thought the Pirate Cruise @ GF would be great. But after reading several reviews, it sounds like alot of the children on the cruise are in the younger age group (4-6 years old).

Has anyone ever sent there 8-10 year old on the cruise & did they still have fun?

Did they feel they were too old for the adventure??

My DS9 went a couple weeks ago. I had to talk him into it as I wanted DS4 to go and wasn't sure I trusted him alone. So, I asked DS9 is he'd join his brother.

The day of the cruise, DS9 was apprehensive and not sure he wanted to go. But he did and had an awesome time. DS9 remembered going when he was 4 and some of the clues. The entire boat came back with smiles on their faces. They gave them cute pirate scarfs with Mickey ears attached. I would have thought DS9 would take it off as soon as he exited the boat, but he didn't. Left it on in the arcade when we stopped to play some games. Surprised me.

The group was mixed ages. DS9 was by no means the only older child. I think your son would have fun.

My grandson went when he was 8. His appointmented buddy was a girl, but he was OK with that. He said he had an OK time, but thought it was too babyish for him. The next year (9 yr. old) I asked him if he wanted to do it again and he said no. He's 10 now, and only wish there were more activities for his age group. He goes about twice a year so enjoys doing different things. He would love an AK tour if he was only old enough to go. No one can predict the age group of each pirate tour, so you take your chances that it could be an older group or younger group. At 8, my grandson was one of the oldest kids on the boat that day (lots of kids 4-6).

I guess I'll talk to him about it & let him know he may be the oldest child. If he's still interested, I'll go ahead & book it.

I think he may enjoy it in the end either way. We went on the Family Magic Tour when he was 8 1/2 and he thought he was too old for it, but he ended up having a blast & wanted to do it again this trip. I think the same thing will happen with the Pirate Cruise: He loves Boats, He loves Pirates, and He LOVES treasure.

My DS 10 went with DD 4 during spring break.

Definately ask your son some questions and try and gather clues from him.
I misjudged my son. He was bored the entire time, even though he was the one to answer questions, helped with the clues to find the treasure.
He felt it was babyish....................................................he got off the boat and declared that it was "so boring!"

DD on the other hand loved it! So much that she still wears her pirate bandanna and eye patch, still sings the Pirate song, and has asked to go again.

There was one other older child on the boat when my kids went, the rest were in the 4-7 year range.

My DS9 went with my DD7 back in Dec. He had a blast. He wore his pirate bandana for the rest of the week. He is a very mature 9 year old and he thought it was a lot of fun.

I told him that if he was the oldest pirate that CMs, Nadine and Bobbie, would have him help with the younger pirates.

My then 10 DS had a great time. I don't think your son would be out of place at all. There are a good number of CM's involved and tehy really work with the children to keep them comfortable and happy.

I talked to my son about it last night & he seemed excited until I told him he may be the oldest child on board. Then he seemed a little worried, but I told him it would be the same as playing with his cousin (who is 4) and he seemed a little better.

He then asked "what else can I do instead" when I gave him his other option (going with me to take his sister to the GF spa to get her 1st facial) he quickly chose to go on the Pirate Cruise.

But I feel he will really enjoy it!!
