When I joined Pinterest, it seems like I just clicked on something on the website about requesting an invite, and I had an email with my invite within a few minutes. Is that not how it works now?

No they add you to a wait list.

I requested an invite last week and I got an email saying that I was on a waitlist. Then I got another email later that same day and it was an invite.

I requested an invite last week and I got an email saying that I was on a waitlist. Then I got another email later that same day and it was an invite.

I did the same just this morning, and got my invite about 15 minutes later. I don't think you need to be invited by a current member - just go to the website, it's right at the top of the page.
