Ok, I'm salivating at the thoughts of the pins on the ship that are unique to DCL. Can anyone tell me about them? Do they also sell WDW pins?

Is it ok to wear the pins to different events on the Magic? Thinking of the DVC pin for the DVC meet, Mickey flag pins for Small World night, WL pin when I wear my Wilderness Lodge t-shirt. How about the Guest of Honor badges? Im sure the waiters, especially on the first night, may appreciate these but do they look "goofy" to everyone else?

Can't be as goofy as seeing a 350 lb man wearing a speedo:eek:

My son was just introduced to pin collecting onboard our last cruise by Serena in Mickeys Mates. She gave him good advice, to collect the DCL pins first, and after to start collecting others...since cruise pins are rarer..

There were many cruise themed pins to choose from, including ones from the shows, Oceaneers Club, as well as a really neat one emulating Goofy painting the rear of the ship. Also, there were ones with characters including chip and Dale wearing Sailor outfits...of course there is the Castaway Club pin that everyone gets for free...

While we were there a 2 weeks ago, they offered an Artist Choice pin that is exclusive to DCL. It's a limited edition pin (750) and already sold out and very valuable. Buy that if they have one on your cruise. I agree that buying ones you can't get on land (DCL, Castaway Cay) are a good way to get started. Also, they'll have pin trading session where you can trade any pin you want with any pin you choose with a DCL CM. They have some rare pins and are very willing to trade. My kids just started on the cruise and loved it.

My son also just started collecting, last Oct. at Disney. He has about 10 now. I got a great surprise when I went shopping at the Disney store yesterday. About a hundred different pins for only $2. each. No, I didn't buy them all but it was tempting. I bought 12 for stocking stuffers. JUst had to share.

Where exactly do they sell the Artist Choice Pin? How early into the trip does the pin go on sale?

Thanks... Paul

My understanding is that there is one Artist Choice pin per month - they vary each month by character, etc. They are Limited Edition pins and are split equally between the Wonder and Magic. They can apparently be released at any time during the month, so, not necessarily on the first of the month. They are sold in the gift shops on the ship.

One thing to remember is that pin trading is supposed to be fun for everyone. :smooth: We should let the kids have their own kind of fun collecting and trading with the cast members. Don't worry about aquiring all the pins out there, or the most rare, there are lots of those that end up on e-bay for sale at greatly inflated prices.
Trade to have fun, not profit!
BUt having said that, there are a lot of nice DCL pins. Also the pins sold at CAstaway CAy are sold on the island only and not on the ships.
Above all lets have fun pintrading:jester:

I purchased an Artist pin in January on the Magic, how do you know what they are "worth" if reselling?

Are "pin trading cruises" only done on the Wonder? I bought a cool pin of the Wonder sliding back and forth in front of CC that was from a pin trading cruise last May. I thought it would be a great trader. I hoped to find one of the Magic like that and trade, since I've never even been on the Wonder LOL. No luck, so that got me wondering. Doesn't the Magic have pin trading cruises?

PouncingPluto - there were plenty of nice DCL pins in the shop on board and at CC. You'll go nuts. Also, I found some that were high priced in the shop, offered in the CM trade book in the atrium, for trades. Just so the pin you want to trade is not on the same page as the one you want, you just take off what you want and replace it with yours. I had bought two pins in the shop for about $10.ea. and then found one in the book. I traded a $2.50(sale) pin for it, and took one of the purchased pins (still packaged) back for credit toward another t-shirt! It helps to be familiar with what is offered in the shop before going to the trade book. Of course, if it's a limited pin for sale, and you want it. Just buy it quick.

We were on the October 6th 4 day Wonder and my two daughters ages 3 and 6 started pin trading. My youngest daughter was not interested but my oldest had a great time. Before we left I bought 50 pins for 60.00 on e-bay that they traded. Every night they set up a pin trading station in the atrium and we went down there. It was very simple to do although I only saw people trading with CM's not among themselfs. The October Artist Chioce pin was released while we were on board. There is one released every month with 375 on each ship. They cost 12.50 and you can buy two per person every night. It went on sale the first night of our trip. Although it may have been politically incorrect I purchased 10 of these pins and sold several of them on ebay for 50.00 to 60.00 dollars each. I am letting my girls use the money to buy more pins. I know that someone stated the the pins are sold on ebay for greatly inflated prices although I would say they are sold on ebay for what someone is willing to pay. I have seen the January pin on ebay for well over 100.00

Thanks Mike for the info. There is always a price for everything, right? I really only purchased my pin because someone on the Boards back then asked me to pick them up one and I did. It was a little inconvenient because I went out of my way to go get it when normally I wasn't interested myself. The gentleman I purchased it for didn't even send me money for shipping that purchased it. It was my fault though, I just had thought he would've been more considerate and paid me more for even my time to get it, mail it, etc.

Maybe I'll just have to pick up another one in December. Is it the Artist collector pin the one they release every month on the ship? Do they release another series on the ship or just this one?

thanks for your help, I'm in the darkness about many things as you can tell!

I'm still bummed that my DW was on the October 3rd Disney Wonder cruise and the October Artist Choice pin wasn't yet available. She had "orders" to pickup a couple pins so that I would have some good traders. We cruised in January and I picked up ONE pin for a friend. When I got home and found out how valuable they were as traders (and on ebay), I could have kicked myself for not purchasing one for myself. I just have to keep reminding myself that pin trading is supposed to be fun.

Are there other pins released each month on the ships or just the Artist one?
