Pins on an Airplane?

So long as you put them in your bag you will be fine. I am sure that if you are wearing a lanyard, the agent will make you take it off before going through the detector....

We have taken our pins on the airplane many times, usually in our carryon. Almost always we are asked to take them out so security can see what is in the bag. We don't like to pack them in our checked luggage. WE have never had a problem with them in our carry on even when we have taken a full pin bag with us.

I have brought the big books of pins on a plane and haven't had trouble. They might look at it quickly, see its from Disney World, then let you be

We're another family that puts them in the carry-ons, and have never had any trouble getting through security.

My dd wore hers on the plane in Sept.We just put it in the basket to go through the detector and then put it back on and wore it on the plane with no problems.

Everytime I have flown with my pin bags and my lanyard they have both went into my carry-on bag and had no problems when going threw security in Toronto, Orlando or Tampa Bay. Sometimes they have searched my pin bags and other times they have not searched them.

I'm afraid to fly, so at the end of a successful flight a few years ago, the pilot brought me out those little "wing pins" that they sometimes give to kids. I'm 26, but I think he was trying to be nice & funny.

Anyways, he had to remove the pin part & just give me the plastic wings because he said pins were no longer allowed on planes anymore :confused3

Based on that, I'd be afraid of taking pins onboard and would just pack them in your suitcase. While it seems most people haven't had any trouble, you don't want to be that one person that can't bring their pins onboard and loses them.

I put mine in my carry on and whip it out as soon as I land lol.

We never check our pins - would hate to have that suitcase lost! You put them in the plastic bin, they go through, security might glance at them that's it. I've taken our backpack with many, many pins in it onto the plane with no issue at all, and have yet to hear of anyone being prevented from doing the same.

We have traveled with our WDW Pins in our carryon many many times without issue. We also travel to and from figure skating competions several times a year with the dd's skating traders and lanyards in our carryons.

There is no TSA restriction against pins, in fact you even carry scissors as long as they are less than 4 inches in length.

Here is a link to the TSA list of permitted/prohibited items:
http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/prohibited_and_permitted_items_10-24-07.pdf

Since you are no longer allowed to lock your checked bags (except with the TSA locks) you should never pack anything of value in your checked luggage. The TSA has free reign to open and search any case at any time and unfortunately things sometimes do go missing.

I would be THAT person that loses them. Last year we tried to carry on all of our baby food (according to the website it was allowed), but the agent said we could only bring a day's worth and my husband had to RUN back to the check in to check that bag that wasn't packed well enough to be thrown around! Luckily nothing busted, but some of the plastic containers were VERY banged up. I'm paranoid, so we're packing them!! :confused3

Not if you put them on the belt, they don't. :) If you attempt to wear them through the metal detector, it will most likely detect them.
