If you have a lanyard with pins, do you usually wear it on the plane, put it in your carry-on, or put it in checked luggage?

I was going to have my kids wear their lanyards or put them in their carry-ons, but I don't want to do anything to slow down our security check. I'm trying to get through security as easily & quickly as possible. I'm also hesitant to put pins in checked luggage in case they get lost. My kids would be crushed if anything happened to their pins.

We've always carried ours in our carry on bags and never had a problem. And I'm talking about 3-4 pin bags of different shapes plus a container of pins for lanyard trading, not just a small amount for casual trading. The concern of being lost or stolen from checked bags is why most people do not put their pins there.

I've never heard anyone on the Collectors Board or here report any problems with pins in carry ons. Security will probably want to look through the bags, so expect that.

If the kids really want to wear the lanyards, I'd say keep them in the carry on until you're through security and then put them on after you're through.

I use to fly with pins in checked luggage pre-TSA days. Now I carry a pin bag as a carry on.
Sometimes they open the bag. Sometimes not. It always stops security for a closer look. But at least I know my pins follow me. ;)

I always carry my pin bags & my lanyard on the plane never with any problems. Flying out of Toronto they always have been checked because they railey see them, however the last time flying out of Orlando they were not checked. I guess it's because they have seen pins quite a few times, because a previous trip before that the TSA agent knew what they were. The weird thing is when they were not checked in Orlando the one time it was a code Orange on the Terror level & I thought they would have been checked. Let's say I was surprised they were not.

I am travelling with roughly 200 pins that I need to trade out for cooler pins for the kids going on Bert's Big Adventure in 2007. I am holding a bunch of donated pins that are for Disneyland or are holiday oriented pins that I would prefer to change out for something a bit cuter for the kiddos.

I do not wish to take my pin book, because it's shaped like a Mickey Head and just isn't big enough. I have craft foam boards that I store my pins on with out the backs on the pins and the points of the pins are still embedded in the foam. I took the thin sheets that have the adhesive on the back and joined it with the boards that are roughly 3 times thicker. It works great! I can even turn the boards upside down and the pins do not fall out.....even with no backs on the pins. I sometimes cut the boards up and use them for mailers when I trade on PinPics.

Anyway, the boards are roughly the size of a sheet of notebook paper, so they are a good stacking size and I can put about 50 pins on a sheet. I just pop some backs in a ziploc and we are good to go! We will take a couple of lanyards with us and a small pin trader bag to take extras for lanyard refreshment along with us.

Happy Trading! Maggie
