Hello

I am curious, what is the policy per airlines, or what is the experience of my fellow travelers when it comes to carrying pins on the plane or in a carryon? Are they considered "weapons"? Has anyone had a problem with carrying them on?

I have carried my pins on the plane several times without problems. Security has done the extra screening (asking to open the bag) a couple of times, but once they saw the pins everything was fine.

I put my pins and lanyard in a baggie and put that in one of the baskets. They can easily see what it is and I've had no problems.

I strongly recommend you do as GrandMum did, put your pins in a baggie. That way, they are easy to pull out and see, but you won't run the risk of them coming loose from the lanyard. I usually put them in a clear quart sized bag loose (i.e., not on a lanyard) and it's been fine.

Thanks for asking this question! And thanks for the great advice. We are avid pin traders and this will be our first time flying with the pins. So it is good to know how to handle this.

I do this all the time. I had no problems. I was just there 8/19-8/27 and took about 100 pins. I had my bag checked for excessive electronics. It seems one of our bags always gets checked.

This exactly. I am so glad to hear that I should be able to keep my precious pins close at hand.

I've never had an issue flying with my pins. Sometimes I wear the lanyard, and sometimes I put them in my carry on.

After I check in at the airline (or before depending where your local TSA agents are) I show the TSA people taking my luggage. I have my pins in a baggie inside of a lunch box. I make sure I can still carry them on and there hasn't been any changes where I can't. When I go through the actual screening, I also take it out of the lunch box (just a soft-side Disney one) and put it in its separate bin to be scanned. I have done this 3 or 4 times and haven't had a problem. They have always been happy that I'm not trying to be sneaking or whatever. Plus it makes for good conversation as we are passing through.
