any ideas or concerns, any close rest, it seems so close to the airport i'm wondering if we need a car?

Funny you should mention this place. DH just found a visor and frisbie from there when he was cleaning today. We stayed there several years ago. I had to be in Fort Myers on business in August. Since this is the off-season, the Pink Shell was discounted and was cheaper than the Homewood Suites inland where I usually stayed. The kids and DH hung around the beach all day while I worked.

It wasn't fancy and we stayed in a studio, so the kitchenette and bedroom were all in the same room. Hard to beat the location, though. We stayed at another place on Fort Myers beach farther south that was WAY too noisy all night long from the traffic.

It's not really ALL that close to the airport and I don't remember any real close restaurants, though I think there is a trolley that runs along the beach. I would want a car for a day trip to Sanibel and other assorted journeys.

It is a lovely resort. Not near the airport. You can use the trolly to get around.

My family and I stayed at this resort the last week of July 2007. Here's a copy of my review that I posted on the Tripadvisor website:

We stayed 7 nights in the Beach Villas the last week of July. (We got a GREAT deal via Florida Direct). The units are the closest to the water with a GREAT view of the gulf and a nice view water view from the kitchen (of the bay area). Lots of parking and a very short walk to the White Sands Villas. The units are older, however, very well maintained. We were really glad we chose the BV over White Sands. I wouldn’t want to overlook the main pool area. Daily housekeeping was good – tho. they showed up around 9 a.m. every day – a bit early for my vacationing family. Luckily, they were willing to come back later to clean. The main pool area is really nice and had plenty of areas that offered shade from the HOT sun. Lots of kids & teenagers. It’s definitely a hopping place esp on the weekends. The beach is great for families. You can walk out quite a ways before it gets deep. Yes – there is some sea grass but it wasn’t a problem for us. LOTS of sand dollars. Please people – leave them in the ocean – they are living creatures. We did a lot of exploring of the area – and found some good restaurants esp. Snug Harbour and Parrot Key. We helped some locals celebrate their birthdays at the Barking Shark (thanks for the rum shooters at sunset, and the cupcakes for the kids!). I was disappointed in the shops – which was alleviated with a trip over to Sanibel (a favorite island of mine!).

We enjoyed our stay. I didn’t like having to get a wristband every day to use the pool. They do walk around and check esp on the weekends. Lots of pool hoppers – so I can understand why. You also have to sign a waiver when you pick up pool towels - $40 for each towel not returned. Everyone quickly understands the value of the towels – and we found people respectful in not moving/taking other people’s towels. We also found an issue with our key cards not working at times. Maybe it’s all the sand?
