Pin Values

Do the value of limited pins increase over time or is it dependant on the demand for the pin?

I don't trade seriously and just buy a few packs of the 'baby princesses' pins and trade them with CM's for pins that I like the look of and while looking over a few pins I'd traded for a found a few limited editions like a 1 of 300 easter 2008 pin.

Is it worth anything?

It's pretty hard to say what the value of the pin is without knowing exactly which one it is. Pin values go up and down much like the stock market.

There are actually very few pins that have maintained a high value over time. The bottom line is that you should trade for pins that you like.

I would agree that trading for the ones you like is probably the best bet.

I think that while limited edition does mean something, the demand will definately be the deciding factor in the value of the pin. For instance there are pins with a LE of 300 that fall in the book value range of $15.00, then there are pins with a LE of 1500 that fall in the value range of $35 plus!
A good resource for trading so you feel more comfortable if values are a concern for you is the Tomarts Disney Pin Trading Guide, it cost $30 cover price for the book, but you can find it a bit less expensive sometimes on ebay... the current edition of the book is the 6th Edition.

Although they do not give values, on www.pinpics.com (which is a trading site) the pin descriptions indicate how many people have a particular pin on their want list and how many people have a pin as "excess" and are willing to trade it away.

Looking at the ratio will give you a good idea of the value. I have some pins in my collection (unwilling to trade away) that show over 200 people wanting them and zero or one willing to trade; obviously these are high value pins. There are other pins where there are more people willing to trade them away than their are people looking for them; obviously these tend to be of much lower value.
