Pin trick worked!!! Now stay with PP or move up to DLH?

I think the system was glitching last Thursday, as the same thing happened to me. Finally, it started working again over the weekend. I got a second e-mail to my first address, this one had a PIN in it, so don't assume just because you get a follow up e-mail without a PIN, that you're SOL.

Sadly, teh PIN is for November, and I'm going early October. I called and tried to get it for that time, but was denied. She did say some normal October deals would be released soona, but I doubt they will be $183 a night for DLH.

Oh well, that's still double what I'll pay for a good suite hotel, and I don't need to spend that much.

Well, and even if you do get a pin there is no guarantee it will be the prices listed. My fiancee received a PIN that was 35% off on our dates even but when I called my AP discount still beat it out and only saved us $35. I think it is because the generic fall discount was 30% for the same time period anyway so it was really only an extra 5% in the end... but it still would have been $300 per night ($350 with taxes!)! :sad2: At that rate we can only stay one night as a one time thing... we are paying less per night to stay at Aulani! Its on rented points but still!

Being from Calgary and trying different pin code tricks over the years I had come to the conclusion that my accessing a Disney pin code is just like trying to access all the awesome deals on Costco.com or the non-book related departments available for online shopping on Amazon.com - i.e. NOT AVAILABLE to Canadians (we have Costco.CA and Amazon.CA and these are very different and LIMITED!)
I did once receive one pin code in my name about 5 years ago for WDW, when I had no chance of planning a trip and that was it since then.
When it came into my crafty head to check on prices for a trip to DL for the end of August, I did save some of the offers but didn't really think there much chance that we would really use them (tell me this doesn't give you a cheap thrill anyways? That "saved offer'" that indicates the slightest chance of what may be..)
THEN we received a postcard in the mail offering up to 35% off hotel stays for Aug.22 to Oct. 8 and my husband announced that he would not be opposed to a quick trip Aug. 24 - 29 (this was last week)!!!! All systems go EXCEPT for the fact that the card was addressed to my SISTER-IN-LAW who lives with us intermittently, holds neither a Canadian or American passport and can't even leave the country because they are awaiting an immigration decision!!! I am almost 100% sure she has never signed up for a Disney account or saved an offer as she has been too busy looking for work to even contemplate a vacation!
Anyways, remembering that some people here on the boards, at least for WDW, have claimed that these pins are good as long as the users live at the same address (no one at Disney needs to know what "intermittent" means in my opinion) as the addressee of the postcard, I called up a CM straight away.
I was shot down on that try! but remembering that some people here on the boards say to keep trying until you get a "nice" CM, I called back and was told "Of course that is possible!" and so we booked and are leaving TOMORROW!!!
I apologize for going on and on but I thought this was important to report and to pass on encouragement for those of us who scheme so hard to get to Disney for the good of our families! Who knows what kind of crazy system they are using for deciding who gets pins and who doesn't? This and the fact that the rules the CMs seem to following are so random make it so frustrating!
Take heart fellow Disers! I'm going to Disneyland!!!

Just wanted to clarify -

The "30 day" thing is only applicable to packages, and those usually require a minimum 2-night stay (although some packages may be for one night only). Plus, the packages don't even have to include Hoppers in the deal - there can be ticketless packages too!

The majority (though not all) of the PIN codes that have been going out - the ones directly connected to the Saved Offer/"My Disneyland" account trick - are for 1-night stays and above. In other words, those are 'room-only' stays through Central Reservations, not packages, and they do not have the 30-day thing. With a room-only reservation, you have all the way up until 5 days prior to arrival to cancel or make changes to your reservation (and you can do this countless times) without penalty. There's much more flexibility for changes with room-only bookings.

Hmmm...so if I get a pin, and I booked us for December at the PPH slready through AAA (on the Disney site), I wonder if they'll let us change it. Darn it..I peek on here fairly often all the time, and I still missed this! **smacking my own head**

They may let you apply the PIN, but you could possibly have to pay $50 or $25 or some sort of penalty to change from the package to a room-only situation, or to another package, with the PIN. All you can do is try and see what happens. With the room-only reservations, applying a PIN code is no big deal so there is no fee. You can also cancel a room-only booking free of charge up to 5 days before your arrival date. It's very lenient.

The packages have more restrictions on time frames, i.e., inside of 30 days there is X fee to change this or cancel that, etc. Room-only bookings allow more flexibility to cancel closer to the arrival date if something comes up. You may not know more than 30 days in advance if you have to cancel. But you may know 5 days in advance if you have to cancel, and then have to pay a fee if you have a package.

There have always been PIN codes that have gone out over the years, and those names are pulled from a database of some kind, or random databases. I've gotten lots of PIN codes before I ever stumbled upon the Saved Offer trick. It's just that when I discovered the Saved Offer trick, I realized this is the first time we have a solid, direct "lead" to getting a PIN code (that works much of the time). It's not the only way anyone will ever get a PIN code, but the other ways are unknown.

There has to be a random selection process for who gets PIN's (not the Saved Offer PIN codes). And there is no way that everyone who tries for a PIN code or hopes to get one will get one. There is no way that every AP holder or every SoCal resident or every former DLR hotel guest could get a PIN at the same time because there are not enough rooms and each PIN code "wave" of offers is attached to a certain number of rooms. There are just not enough PIN coded hotel rooms to go around.

I'm glad you were able to use the PIN you received (addressed to your sister in law)!! I have received lots of PIN codes addressed to my friend - who has never lived with me, but she was a guest in my GCH room once so her name was in the Disney database. The PIN's come to my home address or my e-mail account. I was told that as long as she was with me on the trip, I could use the PIN, and then I would show my ID and prove I lived at the address.

But I would not be able to use the PIN code I found sitting by my building's mailboxes a couple of weeks ago because it was addressed to my former neighbor, who no longer lives in this building, and there is a different apartment number on it than mine.

Thanks for clarifying that, Sherry! I'll give it a go, and who knows? We might get lucky. If not, we already have PPH rooms reserved, so our trip goes on (yay!) whether we get a pin or not. :)

I'm so excited as our surprise trip counts down!

Yes, you never know - maybe it will work and you won't be charged a fee.

You've got a holiday trip coming! And this is your first DLR holiday trip, as I recall, right? You've got lots to look forward to!:cool1::cool1:

I wonder if anyone's had any recent luck with this. We're planning a September trip, and it sure would be nice to get a PIN!
