Is pin trading between children and cast members the same at DL as it is at WDW?

TIA

Yes, pin trading is the same at DL as it is a WDW. I think there is more trading at WDW than DL -- but I could be wrong. From what I understand CM's wear different colored lanyards that are specifically for trading with children. If anyone knows what the different colors are please jump in and inform us, as I have never paid that much attention to the color of the lanyard, just the pins!!

My DS(6) loves to trade (and has traders remorse too! :sad2:) and have never had a problem trading -- they are usually very responsive to trading with kids.

The teal-colored lanyards are for children-trading only.:cutie:

I have found that pin trading is pretty closely monitored and controlled at DL vs WDW. There are too many people taking advantage of a good thing at DL and not to say that it doesn't happen at WDW but they appear to be a lot looser on the rules.

Thanks for the replies. I have a 12 y/o that enjoys the pin trading alot and didn't know if I should have her start picking out pins to take or not! She is too scared to do real trading for the fear of being turned down (plus we don't pay attention to "good" pins vs. common pins) so the CM trading is so nice.

We just got back from our first DL trip. While pin trading follows the same rules, there are two major differences:

- Very few CMs wear lanyards at DL when compared to WDW
- They have pin boards up (10-2 in Frontierland; 2-6 at DCA and 6-10 at DTD) where anyone can make two trades in 30 seconds (they also have "mystery" pins in pirate chests which count as part of your trades)

The pin board at the Frontierland didn't have much on it, while the one at DCA had loads of Cast Lanyard pins (the new princesses). Cast Members ALWAYS stopped (walking, mostly) if you asked nicely to see their pins. We engaged several really nice CMs (and managers there) and traded much more than we had anticipated.

We started doing pin trading at WDW. We were dreamed with the lanyards etc! For my dd11 though the coveted pin moment for her is when she was dreamed and she got the YOAMD tinkerbell pins and then later an actual dream team member traded her for a very coveted Tinkerbell Pin she was looking for. We found the whole experience a blast and came home with a real great collection. We are looking forward to trading in DL. We often go to this website to get pin info.http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/index

I copied and pasted pin trading etiquette also.

Disney Pin Trading Etiquette
•Have Fun! Disney Pin Trading can be a great way to interact withand meet Cast Members and other Guests.
•The main criteria to judge whether a pin is tradable or not is that it must be a metal pin that represents a Disney Event, Location, Character or Icon. Some pins from our Operating Participants are also tradable, but must represent the Operating Participant in a way that has aspecific Disneyland®Resort or Walt Disney World®Resort affiliation.
•Pins should in good, undamaged condition.
•Trade one pin at a time, hand to hand, with the backs attached.
•Guests may trade a maximum of two pins with each Cast Member.
•Guests may trade only one pin of the same style with a Cast Member.
•When trading with Cast Members, Guests should offer a pin that is not already displayed on the Cast Member's lanyard.
•Please refrain from touching another person's pins or lanyard. If you need a closer look, ask the person wearing the lanyard if they can bring it into clearer view for you.
•Disney name pins may not be traded with Cast Members.
•Monies or gifts may not be exchanged or used in trade for a pin.
•In addition to the 12 pins on Cast lanyards, some Cast Members may wear a "Showcase" pin. These "Showcase" pins are for demonstrations to our Guests and are not available for trade.

We always take our lanyards. We buy a few pins and then look at cm lanyards to trade with. We also have had especial this time guests wanting to trade with us. Of course my dh always says no, but I occasionaly say yes. I had this little girl as me if she could trade with me. I look at her lanyard and she only had 1 pin. I smiled and said no that i would not take her pin, I would give her a pin of mine to trade. That made her happy and smile. The next day I was walking in Tomorrowland and walked right by a cm who asked me if I wanted to look at his lanyard. I actually wasn't looking at him, I was looking for my husband but I stopped and browsed his pins. Now I believe you are suppose to trade pin value for pin value right???? Well I have noticed that if CM's have a really good pin they will not tell you but they will say are you sure you want to trade that one??? I ended up trading a common trading pin for a rare 100 mickey pin. The only made 100 of these pins. How cool is that? Pin trading is very rewarding and plus it gives you something to do. Also I noticed that people were always looking at my lanyard. Have fun trading.

I wish I had heard about this before I went. We were gifted with the Dream Lanyards and two pins each, but had no idea what to do. :) I kept looking for CMs with pins but didn't see any. We aren't frequent visitors to Disney but are happy to have the lanyards and pins anyway.
