I have been purchasing some disney pins from Ebay and gotten some great pins so that my kids can start with some when we go in January....other than the ones they got in May. Anyhow...I just received a batch of 10 I had ordered and they don't say Pin Trading on the backs just Disney written on the back of them.
What is the rule for pin trading? I'm sure these are probably useless for this and will no longer purchase them on Ebay....probably just gotten lucky until now. :sad1:
Any ideas or where can I find out the rules on pins for trading. They are very cute disney pins (ariel, buzz, mickey etc.)
Thanks

I beleive as long as they say Disney on the back they are tradeable. I have traded for several at the parks that just had Disney on them that I liked. I would suggest you check on the Disney Collectors forum on here. You should be able to find help there. :)

You could try to look them up on Pin Pics, www.pinpics.com or if you want, post a picture of the pins, or a detailed description, and I could try and look them up for you.

As long as the pin is stamped "Disney" on the back, they are still tradeable. Older pins just have the Disney stamp. I don't think Disney started putting "Official Disney Pin Trading" until 2003.

Thats what I was thinking but I wsn't sure. So don't worry Mollyseven it sounds like they will be tradeable. :thumbsup2

The copyright symbol and "Disney" is OK from what I understand.

All the pins I've gotten on Ebay (all from one seller, who has a 'store') have been true Disney pins. I do have one I got from a deaf man on a train from Paris to Versailles, it's the only pin I have that is an obvious knock off. The Disney ones are heavy and have clear artwork, etc.

DD5 had a couple of pins I got from a pin website, that ended up being "junk" (I didn't know, never traded pins before.) The CM she traded with was so nice and didn't care; they will trade for any pin the child has. I felt so much better! So, if a child trades, it's okay; if it's an adult, I would guess they would tell you if you had junk! :)

ohhhh....all very good information thanks so much
I just assumed because they are very different from the ones I got at WDW in May that they were not tradeable. I guess I will take them and let the kids see if they are tradeable. I guess there is nothing to lose by trying at this point.
Thanks for all the replies.

As a Cast Member who does a lot of pin trading, I can tell you we would never tell a guest that what they had was junk.

I have often traded "lesser quality" pins from guests for better pins on my lanyard. We're there to make the guests happy and that's what matters. It just has to be a Disney pin in order to trade.

Enjoy.

Thank you!! I was wondering about this same thing and now hearing from a cast member makes me feel much better.

The CM we were trading with did tell me a couple we had were junk pins, but not where my daughter could hear, and I was in no way offended. I'm glad she did tell me, b/c now I know what a "real" Disney pin looks like and what not to buy online! And I thought she was that much sweeter that she traded a really good pin for a junk one!

Do you remember some of the things to look for that indicate they are junk pins?

The junk pins all were black instead of gold on the back, and all had black enamel outlining the front of the pin. Once I had seen them next to pins at the stores, it was easy to spot. Anyone else out there with more specific info? I am a real newbie when it comes to pins... Hope this little tidbit helped! :)

I bought a lot on ebay that came out to $2 a pin when they came they were junk and I sent them back.
If everyone buys junk from ebay and trades it, then all you will get back is a junk pin.
I buy from the disney store or disney online shopping, I pay more but someone will get a nice pin and not junk.

I have bought some really great pins on ebay for between 1cent and 5.00 and the rest have all been true disney trading pins.
These ones are black on the back actually. They are textured on the back also...like a grid pattern. The pin covers are just round black also not mickey ears. The front of them seem to have a clear coating on them...shiny. The only thing good is they do say Disney on the back. Hmmm

Most CM's wouldn't, but it does happen, and in our case, we didn't know that it was a bad pin.

The CM "lectured" us, saying we should be ashamed of trading bad pins, and that pin trading would probably be eliminated because of people like us. The entire incident did not go well, and I wish I had reported it so that another child doesn't have a similar experience.

It was DD7's first day of trading, and she's shy - but she wanted to try trading. We had 3 sets from Disneyshopping - Dumbo, Musical Moments, and Mice. She traded with a couple of CM's just to practice, but she didn't want to keep those pins. This pin was obviously lighter weight, but in the small amount of research I did on the boards before the trip, I thought I had read that Sedesma pins always said Sedesma on the back.

She then asked this particular CM if she could trade. DD wasn't wearing her lanyard because it was bothering her neck, but she was getting in her backpack to take it out. The CM said "Depends, what are you giving me?" and he was serious, not joking around. When she said it was Aurora, he was pleased, until he looked at it.

Then came the lecture, during which he took DD's lanyard from her without asking, to inspect the rest of her pins. He told her they were good pins, then asked why she tried to give him a bad one, and even said that he could be written up if he accepted the bad pin.

I finally spoke up (I can't believe it took that long, or that DH didn't say anything either, but we guess we were just shocked that it was happening) and asked how he knew it was a bad pin. He said it was obvious, and that the stamp on the back proved it. He turned it over as "proof", found that it simply said Disney, mumbled that it must be ok after all, and walked away.

DD was in tears, and it took a couple of days before she attempted another trade, still fearful that the CM would think her pin was bad.

A very kind CM sensed that DD was being very hesitant, and asked us why. We told her that DD was afraid of picking a "bad" pin, so the CM explained about the Cast Lanyard pins, so DD started looking for them mostly.

When we got home, I browsed through many pictures on pinpics & found the pin in question - and it was indeed Sedesma.

We are very grateful for all of the wonderful CMs who made the pin trading fun for DD - she's looking forward to trading on our trip next month. We bought Cast Lanyard pins on ebay, so she doesn't have to worry about trading bad pins.

If a cast member tells you or your child no, just take it to another cast member.

Sometimes they told my kids no (once or twice) and we just moved on, and traded with someone else.

My husband even had pins he bought from disneyland 20 years ago rejected.. he was told they weren't real disney pins.. even though he bought them at Disney.

Anyway, it was a fun time, you'll have no problem with the pins, if they say disney on them.

It was a great way for our kids to get "new" things every day, without me having to spend any money on them.

DD traded for a small Pooh pin that was black & light weight, so I looked it up when we got home. Turns out it is from Hong Kong.

Here's the link for that particular pin -

I have the Minnie, Mickey, Donald, and Pluto ones that are very similar to that Pooh one. I'm pretty sure all of my traders are official Disney pins. Could a couple of you look at my tradeables, at Pin Pics, same user name, and just make sure. TIA. :goodvibes

Are we allowed to post the URL of a particular Ebay pin store? I have bought a lot of pins, all from the same seller, and they are all true Disney pins (mouse backs, sometimes they're on their original card, all heavyweight, gold backs, marked Disney or Official Disney Pin Trading) - I've paid between $2.09 and $4.99 (for one I LOVED), usually about $3.50 each and 50 cents or less for shipping - I don't want to violate any board rules, and I have no association with this Ebay seller, except that I LOVE his pins!

If someone will let me know if it's OK, I will post it as a good resource.
