I posted a thread on the new comers board about this, but not many people are responding so I thought I would try this board too.

I am going to Disney next week and thinking of starting to pin trade. I do not have even 1 pin. How expensive is it? Are there any special rules or anything I should know about??? Where can I get figment and eeyore pins (my fav characters)?

There aren't any special rules or anything. Just buy pins, and ask CMs with the lanyard and other pin traders to trade pins. It's pretty simple.

I got a figment pin at the gift shop after Journey into Imagination. As for Eeyore pins, I don't know. Look at all the pin trading stations.

The cost depends on how many pins you buy, and the price of each pin. Some are more expensive than others. I don't remember the exact prices, but I'm guessing they're around $5 each.

At Walt Disney World pin prices range from $6.50-$12.50. Most of the pins have gotten alot bigger in size making it more difficult to carry around your neck because it's heavy.

I really like to do pin trading because there are some pins that you can only fidn on Cast Member's Lanyards!

There from $5.00 to $12.00. Most are $6.00, but they vary.

There's no rules. Just have fun.

You buy a pin and then see CM with a pin you like better than the one you have. You ask "Can I trade this pin for that pin?" They have to say yes!!!

We got started in pin trading by stopping @Disney Outlet in Premier Outlet Mall just before you get to WDW and buying discounted pins (about $3 or so) It was a good way to get started. We did buy a lanyard with a couple pins on it at the park and we were on our way. It's alot of fun.

CMs with green lanyards only trade with children, I believe. Have fun!!!! pixiedust: pixiedust:

Nickey is correct. They CANNOT say NO to you.
Actually, a CM did say NO. My DD and DN(iece) were arguing about one pin and the CM refused. I must say I backed the CM up and no one ended up with the pin. The CM did look at me for approval. She wasn't nasty or out of line, just wanted to be fair. I wanted the lesson about being fair to be understood. DD wanted me to trade for the pin, but I refused as well. Of course, DD hasn't let me forget the incident.

We are addicted BTW. Can't wait to trade during upcoming trip. Have some Broadway B&B and LK pins to trade. You can ONLY get them in NYC!

Princess Bride Jo...

Welcome to the world of Disney Pin Trading.

There are a few rules. For more information please look at www.disneypins.com for more details.

If you have any questions about pin trading please PM me and I will be happy to answer.

You might want to stock up on some pins before you go. I have had a lot of success buying the offical Disney pins on ebay for a couple dollars a pin and using them to trade with the cms at the parks. I don't think anyone has mentioned that the pins need to be official Disney pins. They will have disney stamped on the back. Another diser mentioned about the cm lanyards. There are two different colors and one is tradeable with anyone and the other is for kids only. I can't remember which color is which. Hope this helps. Have fun !!

- Please ASK the CM if you can look at their lanyard. Very unnerving (moreso for the female CMs) to have random people come up to them and start word-lessly staring at their chest.

- Please do not touch the CM's lanyard. They are more than capable of taking pins off to trade, or putting new pins back on once a trade has been completed. Keep in mind that there are body parts attached to that lanyard that you might be yanking.

- If a CM is very obviously in the middle of something (moving a heavy cart or in conversation with someone else, for example), either wait until they're finished, or just move on to the next CM.

We bought pins before our honeymoon at the Disney Store when they were on sale. Pin trading is addicting and can be expensive. Like another poster said, look at the Disney outlet stores or ebay if you want some pins to trade. I actually prefer pins that I personally don't like or don't collect, because they are easier for me to trade! ;)

My tip for you is to always be nice to the CMs you're trading with. Saying please and thank you will go a long way...trust me on this one, as we believe it was one of these pin trading interactions that ultimately ended in us being Grand Marshalls for one of the parades.

And don't forget that at least at MK, CM pins aren't always on lanyards. In Adventureland, for example, some of the CMs wear pins on a little bag-thing that hangs from their belt, usually on the hip or something. It goes more with their costume than a lanyard does.

I know when we were starting out, I was really nervous about talking to the CMs...now I know it's a great way to meet other people, and it's a big treasure hunt to see what fun pins you might find next.

Happy trading!

DD loves this I hit E-bay all the time and pick up lots for around $2.50 perpin.

Right now we have about 25 and another 28 coming in this week for our next few trips.

She gets 2 per day to either trade or keep and I get her some special ones for gifts.I have a small 5 pin collection myself.

I also recommend a pin bag instead of the lanyard .The pins won't fall off and it's easier to carry.

Here a pic of hers displayed in her room you can see a close up in her TINK ROOM in my sig.Others frame theirs or display them on corkboard.

I started a pin collection for my DD about 5 years ago on our last trip. Dug it out for this trip and have bought a few on Ebay to go with so I'll have something to start with for trading purposes! Its weird though because on Ebay some of them say 'official' and those are the ones I have bid on. I have stayed away from the LE or Propin because I heard those are not tradeable. Not real sure though.

I'm very interested in learning about the pin trading. We went to Mk last week-it was my girls first trip. I bought one of the Happiest celebration starters because after watching everyone it seemed really fun. I did get the girl at checkout to trade with me and got a cute Bambi pin. We are going to do MGM next year and I plan on purchasing one for my girls before we go. They have their own favorites.

Is there some sort of starter pack you can buy, with a lanyard and various pins, ready to swap?

Because otherwise I'll just buy my favourite pins, and won't wanna swap 'em!!

Propins are authorized Disney pins made in Germany, and are stamped Disney. These pins should be fully tradeable...someone please correct me if you have had an experience to the contrary.

You can buy starter kits at the resort stores and stores in the parks. They come with a lanyard and a few pins that are of the same theme, like POTC.

My DS has 24 pins right now. Maybe 6 were bought full price at Disney or DIsney Store. Other than that, we have bought them all for around $2/pin on ebay. I try to get a lot that he likes 1-2 pins and then he can trade the rest. He did well trading last trip and is hooked!

You may want to buy the locking pin backs that they sell at the stores. THe regular backs can come off and the pin will be lost. My son lost one that way and we have now invested in the locking backs. You have to carry a tiny tool to remove the back if you want to trade, but its not a big deal.

Marsha

They sell some starter kits. If I remember correctly, it costs like $22 and has like 4 pins and a lanyard.
