I am hesitatant to post this, but will anyway. ;)
What would you do and how do you handle something like this?:

Trader A sends either an e-mail or TA request to Trader B.
Trader B (me) checks on a few of Trader A's references, via e-mail.
Trade references come back as not so glowing. Along the lines of -- Yes, you may eventually receive your trade pin, with a lot of nagging. Slow respnse, and borderline just plain bad.

Needless to say, I decline. Like I need more headaches.

Normally, I just respond to Trader A, in a No Thank You, Not at This Time canned response.
What I would LIKE to write is -- I checked a few of your references. If you were a reliable trader, I would agree to your request. But you aren't, IMHO. So forget it. :jester:

Now -- IF you were Trader A, would you rather know why you are being turned down?
I wouldn't and don't plan on responding with anything but the standard canned responses. I don't want to jeopardize anything any other trader may still have hanging out. And I don't feel comfortable naming sources, and wouldn't.

But --- just as a muti purpose topic -- WOULD you want to know why?

And the downside is if these type of traders KNEW why others turned them down, maybe they would put more effort into their actions. My guess is it wouldn't faze them and they just move on to someone else.

I am sorry to say I turn down a lot of trades from other countries due to this reason. If it is a simple trade I am willing to risk, not a big deal.
And just as often as there are slow overseas traders, there are super nice, prompt ones.
But it seems 9 times out of 10 traders from other countries (even Canada) obviously wait until they receive my pin to mail theirs. Even though that is not our original agreement.
I go through it enough and it has just made me leery and want to pass altogether.
I am currently in a trade with a Japan trader that is heading south. Seems by pure chance neither of our trade pins have been delivered to each other, although they were mailed weeks ago. :scratchin
When slow trading becomes the norm, it is not worth it in many cases.

Opinions? Thoughts? Flames? :duck:

Hello Barb,

I can understand your frustration. And I can understand your wanting to reply in the way you mentioned.

Yes, there are many who are slower then molasses in January in sending out pins. The conflict is the question, WHY?

Some are just forgettful, some are last minute. Some are put off till tomorow types. You just never know. The mentioned ones are really aggravating.

BUT! Then there are those who just have "things happen", that just cannot be helped. I know for me personally, my life has been upside down and turned around for the last year and a half. So, my TA is turned "OFF". That way, I don't dissappoint anyone in any way shape or form. I do still occasionally get requests as people find I have a pin they would like. And if myn life is not so stressed, I will work out the trade and do it. If not I poiltely pass. And it's not because I don't like the trade or want it. I just don't want to be a cause of aggravation. Make sense?? SO I guess for me, I'd appreciate being asked so I could be given the benfit of the doubt for my carzy life. I know too, when this has happened, whether it be for my crazy life or whatever, I always try to send something extra to make up for the inconvenience and to show my gratitude for their patience.

Now if it is someone that you KNOW is constantly a not so great trader, by personal info, or references what have you. Then maybe you could politely just tell them what you have perhaps heard, read on refereces or know first hand. And say nicely, "As much as I would like to trade with you, this has come to light.....
blah blah blahh....So maybe you should consider this before requesting trades and dissappointing people." Or offer to do the trade with them sending first. Letting them know it is only because of their past track record. And then after they've done some successful/happy trades, you'd be happy to go back to doing it the regular way.

Just my thoughts and suggestion.
Blessings
Winnie

One interesting facet -- a week or so ago I had this same thing happen. French trader, if I recall correct.
I responded I would make their trade as long as they agreed to mail their pin the same day I would, or even the day after.
No response.... ;)
At least they had that going for them.

Well, this is what I have decided to do.
No more out of the countries trades for me -- unless:
* we have traded before and it has gone as arranged
* simple trade and that goes as it should. Then I will trade further with that person

I have been leary about overseas traders...
Been burned a couple of times particularly
from Japan and pinpics complaints seem to
do NO GOOD with them. Even after an escalation...

I met a few quality traders in France...
One girl there is 19 and recovering from
an teen illness... she is great because
we usually trade 6 pins at a time...

But I check refs on Japan people... big time...
In my early days I used to trade alot with
Japan... but not any more...

But getting back to the original question...

I would LOVE to know why people don't
want to trade with me... I'm sick of hearing
"sorry, I'm not trading right now" I want to
write back and tell them to turn off TA...
I'm sorry to just hear "I'll pass" because you
don't know WHY... do they not like me?
do they not want the pin I'm offering?
I hate to hear "sorry, I already traded for that"
I want to write back and say take if off your list
then...

But as far as references go... I check online
ones, but I tend not to email for refs... most of
the time when people do it to me... especially
(no offense) but there are like 50 Barbara's
in the pin world... I'd remember the two I trade
with most often... but if they just ask me
how did your trade with Barbara Jane Doe
go? I wouldn't remember one from the other...
specially if it was longer than a month ago...
I usually write them back and say "If I left
them a reference, everything was alright"
(and I'm usually very late in leaving refs
but I do remember those that stiffed me...)

All I do know is that since my banning, big stink,
& my friends email to the masses of the Ohana,
I have had more trouble trading with those
family members over there... they have stiffed
me on ebay, left me negative feedback for a
post office error... I'm just fed up with them.
There are like 50 of the 300 I think they have
that have made a bad name for the rest of them...
That is one reason why I changed my trading
email, changed my ID's pin trading wide...
I just wanted to make a clean break... but I
have even had 2 of "them" agree to trade, then
find out I'm Heather in Tucson and quickly write
back and say "sorry, no longer interested"
How's that?

ok... ending story here...
