Pin Trading Question

My 7 yo loves to take some pins to the parks on her lanyard and trade a few around. My question is about the backs. Last trip we lost several pins due to the Mickey head backs that came off at the least little bump. Granted we had carried too many with us into the parks, but losing a pin is expensive!

This year I'm thinking of buying the locking pin backs (that do not require the tool) from ebay to secure the pins that she wants to take into the parks.

If you trade with someone and you have a locking pin back and they don't (say a CM), do you have to give up your locking back or is it okay to keep your back and them keep their Mickey head for the trade?

I know there has traditionally been a lot of etiquette in trading and I don't want to offend, but if she is going to have to trade them I don't know that I want to pay more for the locking backs!

TIA! :flower3:

I don't have experience with how well the locking pin backs work, but pin trading etiquette has you each handing the other the pin, point side facing up to the sky, into the others open palm ( no one gets stuck ) and you each keep your own pinback. So, yes I would buy them, those rubber Mickey heads are horrible...the others must be better. Good question ! Have fun :thumbsup2

Yes you keep your own pin back. Also I keep any pins cannot stand the thought of losing in my bag. The ones I am willing to trade go on my lanyard so if I lose it I do not get too upset.

We use the locking pin backs from ebay (no tool needed). They are great. We have never lost a pin since we switched to these. When trading, my boys just let the CM know they want to keep their back. It has never been a problem.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. The pin backs that don't use the key fall off. If you move your pins around more than once anyway. I bought a big pack of them off ebay and ended up having to buy the ones with the keys after that. The ones with the key are the best. Just stick the key in your pocket. It only takes a few seconds more and you won't lose any that way.

And the cast members know that people use locking backs. They sell them at the parks. You just say you need to keep your back but they will see you take it off and know anyway.

We have used the silver locking pin backs from ebay for 16 trips, four pin traders with lanyards and have never lost a pin. Maybe there are different kinds. The ones we use work great. You use your finger nail to pull the edge back and it releases. The kind with the key were more trouble thn they were worth for us.
