Pin Trading - Carryon Luggage??

We will be leaving next Saturday flying from Indianapolis to MCO. We will be taking our lanyards and pins to trade from previous trips. We would like to take them in our carryon luggage but didn't know if it might be better to put in checked luggage? Any advice you could share would be much appreciated!!

Do not put them in your checked luggage. We take our pin bag and our lanyards and put them in their own separate tray going thru airport security.
They are looking for large metal, so if they see the metal by itself, you will be fine. We just returned last week..

You are OK in the carry-on. However make sure you take them out to go through security. My daughter's entire bag was checked and rescanned because she forgot to take out her pin bag. You should have seen them try to figure out what they were looking at originally through the scanner .

I have always packed my pin bags along with my lanyard in my carry-on bags and have never had any problems doing that. Sometimes when going through security they were looked at and other times they were not looked at, so it's a 50/50 chance of that happening.

We're leaving for WDW in the morning. My daughter and I were just talking about this about an hour ago. When the pin trading first started, she had a drawstring pouch full of pins in her carry-on and we didn't think anything about it. When her bag went through the scanner, they stopped it and called several security people over to look at it. We couldn't imagine what they saw. They took her over to the side and started going through the bag, found the pins and starting smiling. They had thought it was a hand grenade. We still laugh about it.

my boys always bring their pins with them on the plane...they have invested too much to go in checked baggage..HTH!

Thanks so much for all the great advice! We will definitely be taking our in our carry on luggage!! They will give us something to do to kill the time until we get to MCO!!
