We bought DS and DD their first lanyards and pins back in March. I have been watching Ebay to buy some lots of pins for them to trade with when we go back in March of 2006. Currently there is a lot of 15 pins that are the 2000 pin that the 000 form the mickey head. All the pins are the same but only $29.99

If we bought these will they really let us trade them?

Thanks in advance.

We are new to this trading thing and pins they buy with their money or pick out for us to get they don't want to trade.

So long as it has the Disney copyright on the back and the CM doesn't have one on their lanyard, you will be able to trade it.

Thanks for the reply. Am trying to find some relatively cheap but also don't look so cool that the kids want to keep them....the whole point is trading, right?

just one comment on those pins in May that pin was on probably 95 % of the lanyards making it very difficult to get rid of , I found this out the hard way having bought 30 of them myself.

No, trading is not the whole point.

The main point is collecting and using trading to help build up your collection.

Let's say you were collecting Figment pins. There are about 20 currently available as rack pins and even a few limited edition ones still available. You could trade other pins to get Figment pins without having to make purchases; but you will find that some of the older (and rarer) Figment pins go for up to $300 on eBay. I have seen trades where someone will trade away several pins, even framed sets, for one pin.

To quote a previous poster, pin trading does teach children to be polite by waiting their turn, assertiveness in willing to approach people for trades, and good manners in general.

However trading just for the sake of trading is not the object.

Cheshire Figment's points are valid, however, there are some pins (called lanyard pins) which can only be obtained by trading. They are not for sale and are only found on CM lanyards, or in other people's trade pins (who had to trade to get them). So, continuing the same theme, if you wanted the Figment head lanyard pin, or the EPCOT parking lot pins with Figment on them, the only way to get them is by trading (unless you are willing to pay for them on an Internet auction site)

If you are getting trader pins, try not to get a lot of the same pin, otherwise you may end up like the previous poster, who had trouble trading those pins.

Personally, I would not buy the 2000 pin to trade. They are everywhere! We got one as a mystery pin on a lanyard (the pin was turned backwards so we didn't know what we were getting), and it took us 4 days to trade just one of these pins away. Your kids will be very disappointed if they see a pin they want on a cast members lanyard, and they can't trade for it because the cast member already has the 2000 pin on. If you buy a pin lot with a variety of pins, then they won't have that problem. If you keep looking on ebay you should be able to get a pin lot with a variety of pins for about $2.50-$3 a pin.

Agree. We bought 10 of these pins on ebay and it was very hard to trade them. Most CM have that pin on their lanyard.

We took a pile of the 2000 Pins to Paris and had no trouble trading them :)
We got a lot of DLP Lanyard pins.

There are a lot of the 2000 "Dancer" pins around. But I am bringing about 40 to WDW in September anyway.

I also agree with the earlier points - the idea is to collect pins. But in order to collect, you have to trade. We have a local Disney Pin Trading group; last weekend I did a 4 for 2 trade for pins my son really wanted Stitch collection.

The best idea is to start a collection quickly - don't just buy and trade pins. I collect Figment and Eeyore; DS collects Stitch (there are only around one billion Stitch pins); DD collects Pooh and Piglet and DW collects Chip and Dale (or the rodents, as I call them to get her angry at me).

Collecting pins as a family is great!

Any hints about ebay pins for $2-$3? How cvan people sell them so cheaply?

Usually these tend to be either Sedesma (from Spain) or Propins (from Germany). They are metal and Disney licensed and so technically they are tradeable with CMs. However, they are very thin and tend towards poor quality. Most cellectors don't want them and some of the knowledgeable CMs tend to feel they (or other guests) are being ripped off when they get them.

Are there any "right" questions to ask a seller to make sure that's not the case or are the under $3 always a "problem"? Thanks.

All pins under $3 aren't a problem, I would just ask if they are copyrighted Disney on the back of the pin. If you don't want Sedesmas, ask the seller to make sure they aren't Sedesma. Usually you can tell by the auction description. If they say they are pins from Spain, then they are Sedesmas. Propins aren't quite as bad quality wise as Sedesmas, and we have traded for some of them from lanyards if it's a character that we collect.

I spoke to a cast member yesterday who said they'll only trade for pins that are stamped [square box] as being from one of the parks (any around the world) --- that a Disney copyright isn't enough. Is that true?

Not accurate. I have bunches of Pins from the Disney Store, Catalog, Energizer batteries...all are tradeable.

dlrp are much more picky about pins.
they refuse to trade sedesma, inspite of my lengthy complaints.
Thay will not trade italian pins and are fairly negative about original eurodisney pins.
