We have booked our cruise for the 7-day Eastern in March, 2004. Our family is definitely "into" pin trading. I was curious as to pin trading onboard. Do the CM's wear lanyards and trade as they do at the resorts? I have heard of cruise line exclusive pins -- are these on each cruise or just specific ones?

Any info on pin purchasing and trading would be appreciated!

We love to pin trade. On our Wonder last summer, we pin traded every night after early seating dinner. There were about 5-6 crew members on some nights and they had cast member pins that were for the cruise line only. We got a propeller pin from one of the engine crew. It is cool and many comment on it. The do have cruise pins, but nothing too special. We did collect all of the special pins available from Castaway Cay...we love those.
During the day, most of the crew wear lanyards with mostly normal easy to find pins.

We cruised a few weeks ago, and the trading was not as busy. Not as many on this criuse were into it, but it was fun anyway.

We love this hobby and my kids always have a keepsake they can give their children someday.

So cruise CM's have lanyard exclusives, like WDW CM's do? But cruise lanyard pins are different than WDW lanyard pins?

Yes, the cruise CM's do have some lanyard exclusives...but not all the time. They have a special time after the early seating (before the late seating) when they come out to the main area of the ship where the characters are.

The rest of the time they wear lanyards, but they just have ever has been traded to them. The ship store has different pins that you will find at WDW (some are the same) like Mickey in a Captain's outfit. The Castaway Cay pins are the best, only available on the island.

They do have a pin trading cruise, but I do not know when the next one is.

The lanyard series pins you will find on the ship are the same ones as at WDW. They are easier to get though! We made a habit of cruising through the gift shops a couple of times a day, and got one each of all the lanyard pins that were out at the time. There weren't many people to trade with at the Pin Trading events, but we did a little bit. The most fun was the first night that the officers came to pin trading wearing their lanyards. We got some unusual pins that night, it was fun!
