So I called WDW today to see if I had the FD pin for Dec attached to my name & lo and behold I do.
So here are the issues we would face:
1) I am due w/ a baby on Nov 10
2) Do you think I would have enough time to get a passport?
My DH says to book it & if we have to cancel, we cancel & not to worry. We were just there in May & loved it & really want to take our DD back.

It took me 3 months to get my youngest's Birth Certificate. I called Vital Statistics (we live in NB) because it was so late (DS #1 I got in about 2 weeks). I was told that there had been alot of births (January) and they were backed up! If you don't mind having to cancel I'd say go for it OR call ahead to the Border people and see if they have any recommendations!

GL!

You need a birth certificate before you can apply for a passport. You also need to have the birth registered before you can get the birth certificate. The process does take a few weeks. Here is some information on travelling with a newborn from Vital statistics:

How can my child travel before his/her birth is registered?

If your newborn is required to travel before the birth is registered, you may obtain a Temporary Confirmation of Birth Letter (Travel Letter) through the clerk's office in the municipality in which the baby was born. You may travel using this document for up to 90 days after the date you submitted the Statement of Live Birth document.

At least one parent must appear in person and provide identification to obtain a Travel Letter. There may be fees for this service, which are set and collected by individual municipalities.

Travel Letters will not be issued for births that occur in municipalities that have already implemented the fully electronic Newborn Registration Service. Births will be registered electronically and birth certificates issued subsequent to registration. Parents who anticipate a need for travel soon after birth, are advised, therefore, to apply for a birth certificate at the same time they submit the Statement of Live Birth. If your child's birth occurred in one of these communities, on or after the launch date and you did not order a birth certificate the same time the birth registration information was submitted, you should apply for a birth certificate via the ORG Premium Online or Emergency services for the quickest delivery.

I am not sure if this is suitable for entry into the U.S. Good luck to you.

Just had a baby back in October - and we did everything with the new "online" process for registring the live birth and requesting the certificates. Even with the fast tracking, it still took awhile to get the paperwork and then we had to apply for the passport. Also, remember the baby MUST have their eyes open for the photo - it is harder than you think! Bottom line - Pierce was born in early October, the passport arrived with fast tracking in late December.

As a sidebar, as a mama who's had two natural, med free births - I'm pretty sure you don't want to be at Disney in December nor would a doctor recommend air travel for an infant 4 weeks (or possibly less) after birth. With both our kiddos, we waited until they were 3+ months before their first trip to WDW. Trust me, waiting those few extra weeks will make ALL the difference.

In your position, I would not even bother making a reservation and risk losing money with cancellation fees in November/December. Disney always has deals in January and early Feb, and I don't think 2010 will be an exception.

Sorry if this sounds negative - but I think making sure mama and baby are happy and settled in a new routine is more important than WDW. And saying this is hard for me, since I am a WDW addict!

We would rather go in Jan/Feb but didn't want to risk losing out on this fab deal.
My friend just had her baby & had her birth cert. in 7 days doing it via online.
We would actually be driving down so flying wouldn't be a concern for us.
Such a hard decision to make. thanks.
Oh, we did use that travel document to cross the border when our DD was a tiny baby, but does anyone know if will still be valid since the new passport laws took place this month. I guess my best bet would be to just call the border patrol.
thanks again.

They often have deals for Jan/Feb as they are value season. For the past 4 years they have released these deals in early November.
We love going down in Jan/Feb. The crowds are low - the temp is comfortable (although chilly at night) and it's pretty easy to get those ADRs. I am taking my youngest the first week of November this year - I've been told to expect much warmer weather and to see a lot of Christmas decorations beginning to go up. I'm hoping the lines are managable - we've been so spoiled with the Jan/Feb lack of crowds...:cloud9:

I would personally pass on it this year. My son was born 2.5 weeks late, not naturally and I had problems afterwards... You can't predict what will happen or when the baby will be born, and if you have a c-section, walking around disney world with a newborn will be the last thing you want to do.
Driving with my son from London to Barrie when he was 2 weeks old was torture. We had to stop in Toronto to feed him. A drive that takes a minimum of 24 hours would not be ideal.

If you're seeking your child's passport, so you can enter the USA, one isn't necessary. Passports are only required for people over the age of 15.

However, a birth certificate is necessary.

That is exactly what the passport office told me today when I went to get my Children's passports!

Thank you DISers.
So I have decided to wait. There will always be another deal & maybe we'll get another 40% off one & be able to go to a deluxe instead :)

I had my daughter 6 weeks ago. I finally got around to registering her birth and applying for her passport online last week. Her BC arrived 3 days later. Sooo much quicker than when I had my son.
Also dont worry about the passport until they are 15, that's when they cant just use thier birth certs anymore.
My doctor strongly advised us with DD not to travel until her first set of needles had happened. Also usually around 6 weeks you have a follow up with your Doctor who took care of you during pregnancy to make sure your all healed up aswell.
Also, I know Im ehausted and Im just at home with DD and DS3. I cant imagine throwing in a 9 mile walk a day to a theme park..

What she said!!!

There is no way I would want to go to WDW with a 4 weeker... after my first I was just starting to walk properly at the 4 week mark:rotfl: (he was 9 1/2 pounds).

Both of my kids went at the 4 month mark - and that was a great time - no food to bring, still light enough that my back wasn't breaking in line, could hold their heads up to look at stuff - and most importantly - were sleeping through the night!!!

I'd wait!

If you are driving... children don't need passports to cross the border.
