Pin Collectors vs Pin Traders

HI! Well, I admit I love all the pins I have traded and that is my biggest problem. I began collecting pins last August. However, I have not been able to part with any yet! I'd love to trade, but find it difficult...any suggestions?

lol...no suggestions here. i just purchased 6 eeyore pins and couldn't bear the thought of trading them. I only have 1 duplicate so far of the one with Eeyore in his house (100 years series I think. can you tell I am new ;D)

I would feel REALLY stupid with just 1 pin on a lanyard.

Definitely a collector here, but a small-time collector. I started just collecting villains, got addicted, and have tried to control the "need to pin" by only adding collections of Tinkerbell, Beauty and the Beast and events that I attend. I'm too timid to trade! I started buying extras of LE pins to trade, but just couldn't work up the nerve to do it. So I gave all my doubles, extras, and pins I didn't want to my best friend who is at Disney almost every weekend. In exchange she picks up pins that she thinks I'll like.

But this CM lanyard thing has got me intrigued! I'm going up next weekend and I am determined to finally do some trading. I think I can talk to a CM!:D I cleaned out all the rest of the pins I didn't want, and my friend is giving me a whole bag of traders in exchange. So I'm all set! Who knows? I may even find some lanyard pins for her! And since she's going on the pin cruise, I'll be at MGM picking up Star Wars pins for her. Nice thing about friends - neither one of us worries about how equal any of this is, we figure it will all come out in the end.

Right now, I'm probably more of a collector than a trader, but I do enjoy trading and by keeping an open mind I have actually traded pins that I did not expect to trade(it's just finding something that I think I like BETTER for some reason. :) Guess that is what trading is all about!)

If you have never been to Scoops pin seminar and you want to know all about pins, trading, and collecting, then you have a treat in for yourself...everyday at 1pm but Fri and Sat. at the Expo hall in MK.. He is a riot, and makes learning all about pins, so much fun, and he has a rather nice collection himself...he plays games, name the flippin' pin, and if you can name it, you win it.. He goes over the fine points of how to trade w/ the CM's and other guests in the parks...especially good for the kids, but sometimes the adults need this more....

I can't tell you how many times I have seen him do this, and it is fresh every time... Scoop is one of the main characters on Main street, and has been collecting for awhile himself....so do your self a favor, and make it one of your stops while in WDW..

I have to say that I am more of a Trader than a collector. Of the 500+ pins that I have, I only have a handfull that I will not trade. The "hunt" is the best part. But once I have it, its on to the next trade. I like the action of trading. And seeing a kid smile because you traded them the pin that they wanted, no matter what the "value" is, is the ultimate!!!!
Keep the pins "alive", keep trading!!

I would say I am half and half. I have a decent size collection....yet I will evaluate it now and again and pull pins to keep as traders........I have bought extras of LE's or bought a group off ebay with a few pins I really wanted and just used the others as traders. I love just SEEING the pins at pin meets.......just to see some in real life is so cool!

For a time, especially at the beginning I was a only a collector and traded only with CMs at WDW. Then I went through a big phase where I traded heavily over the internet and at a few great meets with you wonderful guys and some others and really built up my collection BUT then I got badly burned on at least 3 trading experiences and turned off my name in the TA on PinPics for the past 9 months or so.

Now I pretty much trade only at meets (mostly those hosted by the wonderful and legendary Parkhopper and Suzi who are practically neighbors!). People at these meets are often surprised to see that like Doctor P and Engr-Chas I might trade pretty much anything given the right moment or pin available. It seems that I'm constantly re-evaulating my collection and what constitutes a 'trader'.

AND, just in the past month or so I've been considering creating a second identity on PinPics as suggested by Yenne I think and just setting up a few potential trades.

And, since it's implied by my signature in my messages, anyone can view my collection and traders and could still make me an offer for a pin. Two people have actually done that since I turned off the TA and I did make a successful trade with one of them so the door is actually open a crack!

Good question... I do very little trading other than at the parks or meets. So when I'm home I guess I am a collector... At the parks I do both...

I'm more of a collector than a trader, but I do trade when I go to the parks. I always take a whole bunch of traders with me and trade them for what I want.

I'm a bit of both. I've got some that I won't trade and I don't even take them with me to the parks. But with the ones that I do take to the park I may trade back and forth numerous times a day. Someties I trade for the sake of trading and hoping to keep pins moving around from one park to the next. On our last trip I traded for the same pin at least three times but before the end of each day something else caught my eye and off it went again.

I am both, but unfortunately my trading is limited to our trips down to WDW. So right now I'm doing more collecting, getting ready for our trip this summer. :D

Strictly a collector here. Maybe on my next trip to WDW, I'll get myself a lanyard and see what happens.
