PIN Code Usage/Rack Rate Info

I am reading a lot of posts about people calling and booking using a PIN code they read about on DisBoards. People have been chiming in to say that if you did not recieve it via email you will be charged the rack rate a check-in. Where is this info coming from? Is this a Disney policy? I have a hard time seeing how you could pay off your balance at the 45 day mark, then check-in to find out you owe more money. Is this just more rumor and conjecture or is there a policy that supports this idea? I am hoping for some clarity! :confused3

If Disney booked a room at a rate under your name and with your information, I wouldnt' worry one bit. The invoice they sent you is a contract that they have accepted your vacation at a specified rate.

If you are using someone else's information, and you try to check in and your identifying info isn't connected to the room, then I think it's a concern.
Someone else can't book a vacation for you using their info and their pin.

But if Disney booked it with your info, they gave you an offer on a rate and you accepted. They can't go back on that rate.

It won't be at check in, it will be when final payment is due. Come CM will book at the rate, but, without the PIN added later, it will revert back to the rack rate. In short, if you don't have the PIN you can can't use the discount code.

I dont see how they can charge you more for anything if they don't warn you that you need a pin. Most people that have booked haven't been told that. They'll have a lot of upset people on their hands if they can't honor packages that they book. Someone will make their final payment soon enough and let us know, but I can't see it happening.

I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but my trip was already paid in full when I called and asked for the code to be applied.

My original ressie was for POFQ, garden view room w/ DDP. With the code, they had to move me to a river view, and the total came to much less than what I had originally paid for my package. Because of that, we decided to upgrade to Delux dining instead. I only ended up paying out of pocket a little less than $160 more than what my original package cost.

The moral to my ramblings is, that my trip is paid in full. I haven't reached the 45 day mark yet, but that is coming up next week. I'll let you know if anything changes then.

Golly...I hope I made just a little bit of sense! LOL

All good information...@spicedparrot, what are your sources for this information?

I think once it's booked, it's booked and that's the rate. Or so I am hoping!

From past experience.... back in 2009 with Kids Free deal... never got a pin. Called and had the best CM ever. I asked if he could look to see if I had a pin attached to my name. He didn't look - just simply said, well, you tell me what it is you are exactly looking for. I said Kids Free - and he said okay, we can do that, let me find the right code.
paid balance at 45 days.... and it was the same price as originally quoted to me, no problems.

But yeah, I do have a bit of concern after reading it brought up on here... what if they adjust the price to rack at that 45 day mark or something. I always read of people calling to see if Pin attached to their name and yes, there is and code then applied... but this lately has been a TON of people w/o any code attached to them being able to book a code.... just wonder if it will be a problem and they'll realize wow, a lot of these went through without a code, and do something about it. I sure hope not! I want to keep my free dining!!

This happened to me in the past also. People on the Dis board also said we would pay rack rate when we showed up. We did not pay rack rate, once it was paid it was paid. So I would not worry about it. :thumbsup2

Regardless of what people have told you on the DIS...

The DIS Posting Guidelines PROHIBIT sharing of non public pin codes. I just had to delete several threads for this reason today. That rule has NOT gone away and we strongly discourage you from using non-public pin codes.

Ultimately its your vacation but the rules for this message board have not changed.

Thanks,

Wouldn't this be noted on your invoice? Like how its noted when you book AAA rates that you must show card at check in?

I think it's sour grapes from people who haven't been able to use the code - I personally wouldn't be concerned about it coming back to bite me because you're not being deceptive (like booking a Canadian resident free dining when you are not Canadian - that one I would be worried about).

I agree with you 110%.

Ive been booked since last week for a may trip....I learned about that code that is floating out there..
I called and they told me no, not associated with my name :upsidedow
The following day I called back, asked about the code, was told, Yes it is good to add to your reservation :)..
as it as being changed from room only to a pkg with a one day ticket (I already have non expires) we add the tx and get the new price, Good< then I was told that NO preferred rooms were left  (with that code) for my chosen resort...My Room location was worth MORE to me that 2 quick meals.....so I reverted back to my room only ....
and was THEN told that I should call back because that code is Good for booking thru march 31st and maybe some one will cancel a preferred room and I can snag it with the code and the location...............
So, I did not use it....................The dh thought I was looney, but once again...we dont usually use QS, already have tix and have % off for the season, and want the Preferred location............:wizard:
so IMHO, Id say keep trying.......in the evening

I'm paid in full and I don't see how they could then charge rack rate at the 45-day mark or at check in. :confused3

Their 2012 Terms and Conditions: Prices

"All prices are in U.S. dollars and are subject to change until package is paid in full. After package is paid in full, package price is subject to change due to imposition of taxes or other charges of governmental authorities"

Yup.. you can set your watch by it every February... before the 'FREE DINING' announcement for the General Public there is this flurry of 'there won't be free dining so I need to get one of these non-public does' thing...

Incidentally.. my money is on FREE DINING or something of equal savings.. the economy ain't any better.. so the panic is unjustified in my opinion. We'll see if I'm right. ;)

lol, I agree. I think 3/1 free dining for public will come out. I think some CM's are just pushing it through early some how.

We used FD in June last year on a GP discount. However, we checked in on May 30...so the discount continued into June for us. I'm not sure if there was a June check-in date that was eligible.
