I received a pin code for 40% off however it only applies to the first 3 nights of our stay. Can I apply this to the first 3 nights without messing up our reservations? Yes and No - you can apply it to the first 3 nights, then SHORTEN your original ressie by 3 nites. However, make sure you include your park pass purchase with the 40% discount portion (I believe they require them) so that you can access the parks those days.
If your original ressie ALSO requires park passes, you may have to purchase a minimum number for that portion as well. If you visit WDW frequently, you can save the passes for later use/credit. But if you buy packages each trip, it may not be worth the 40% discount to do a split ressie since all packages now require some sort of pass purchase. Compare the costs and see what will work for you.
We already have all of our ADR's booked and some of them are hard to get so I don't want to risk losing them. If you linked your ADR to the confirmation number, call a CM and ask them to simply change the number on those particular ADRs. Normally, once the ADR is made, only a ressie cancellation or a change by you will drop that ADR.
Also will this create 2 reservations, one for the pin code and one for without? If so do I have to check out and back in? YES it will create 2 reservations. If/when you split a reservation, make sure your TA or the CM ressie desk link both confirmations back to the other so that you do not have to change rooms.
