Pin code question?

Hi, we are planning a trip for December 2010 it will be DD15 and two of her friends. If one of her friends got a pin code we would we be able to use it, or does it have to be sent to the person booking the trip? I thought I read somewhere that if they are on your room ressi you can use it?
Is this correct?
