Pimp my golf cart

OK,

Bear with me, this is a little unusual.

My husband is an egineer. He is about to finish a custom golf cart he's designed and built over the past year. The entire point of this, of course, is to run it somewhere where other men can look at it and go, "COOL!"

He grew up vacationing at Ft. Wilderness, we fell in love there, it's a place very near and dear to our hearts. So he has a dream of hauling this custom cart down to WDW and running it around camp. OK, that's doable, for sure, but here's his question:

Do you think other people with special golf carts would like to have some kind of informal meet? So the guys can all admire one anothers carts and talk about their accessories and fat tires and transmissions and such?

Do you think there's enough people with funky carts that people would come to some kind of roundup? How would we put that together?

Do you think Disney's Ft. Wilderness management would help us and have fun with it, or want nothing to do with such a gathering?

Probably nothing will come of it, but I thought I'd ask!

Although its informal, there sure seems to be a lot of cart admiring going on during the Christmas holiday. I have seen some crazy carts at the Fort.
I dont think the fort would want a piece of the action but you might try just cruising around talking to folks with nice carts.

Not sure about some sort of meeting, but people bring their custom carts all the time. We have one also. People just drive them around and when someone likes your cart they will usually stop and talk to you about it.

Yeah, we get a lot of comments about our cart too. People have no problem chatting up a conversation withus when we are "looping." we meet a lot of folks because of our cart.

SURE! You can rent golf carts at the bike barn right in the heart of Fort Wilderness. The price is aprox 43. a day, unless the rates have changed. you can call the bike barn to make reservations at 407 824-2742. Have fun

Closer to $50 with tax unless you rent more than 7 days. I'd reserve ahead as they sometimes go quickly.

We love striking up conversations with people about their carts. That is what inspired us to go and get a cart and fix it up like we wanted it! Now, we get people talking to us and we go and find others, great way to meet people I say!

OK, well, it's not done yet... still needs a roof, windshield, and the body work and paint. We think it will be purple, not sure, have to see what extra auto paint our body guy & Joe's project buddy has hanging around.

Joe is building this pretty much from scratch. It's being retrofitted with a small turboshaft starter engine from off of an army surplus jet, plus a forward and reverse electric creeper motor. Joe designed and built a custom clutch for it out of parts used on farm equipment, too.

We are thinking about sending something around to Jay Leno when we're done, as we think this will be the only jet powered golf cart in the country. And Joe holds a secret fantasy of giving Paul, Jr. of Orange County Choppers a ride on it on their local golf course.

Of course, it will operate as an electric cart, too, for those times when it's just not appropriate to sound like an airplane and go 80 mph.

When people ask me "why" I remind them that Joe is a guy.

LOL no, Joe is not a sports fan. I guess men can't have two obsessive hobbies!

I haven't seen the purple they were talking about, supposedly it's very deep and sparkly. The body guy is really good, so whatever they end up doing, it will look completely professional, I'm sure.

Here is the cart before we decorated it. We are in the middle of making bigger interlocking AU's for the side, so I will post an after picture too.
