Watching channel 4 pig programme with Jamie Oliver and omg i didn't even realise the conditions some of the European pigs are kept in how terrible.....I could never be a vegetarian im the first to admit it, but i would want them to be kept happy!!!
Thats why I am a vegi.
I dont have a problem killing animals for meat but it is the cruelty first that bothers me.
I have just deleted the next bit i wrote but any way just buy brittish from farm assured not perfect but the best of a bad job.
Dont even get me started about the poor chickens !!!!!!!!!!!!!
As one of the farmers pointed out why does this government prevent the UK pig farmers from keeping stalls but then allow the import of Bacon from the EU where they have been kept in stalls????
I went to the fridge to check the pork content on the pack of bacon & it was 89% - so 11% water added!! Certainly made me think about what cut & where I buy meat from in the future.
I've been buying from our local farm shop for a few years now as I've seen simlilar programmes to this before.
You pay slightly more than the supermarkets but there's no comparison to the quality - also I don't know how but the farm shop meat just goes seems to go so much further so you actually need less.
The chicken breasts are about £1.50 each but are twice the size to the ones you get in packets in the shops and at least you know they haven't been pumped up with water!
I loved Jamie's programme but had to hide behind a cushion for the castrating - I could still hear the squeels so I can't imaginge the pain the piglet must have been in.
