A long time ago I remember an easy recipe for pigs in the blanket using cocktail wiennies and crescent rolls, does anyone know how they are made? I am thinking you rollout the crescent rolls and cut the triangles in half, but I am not sure. If this is the way does anyone know how long to cook them?

Thanks!

You've got it right. Just cook them until the rolls are done.

I used the Pillsbury breadsticks when I made those but it's been quite a while ago and I don't know if they still make the breadsticks.

When I make them I don't cut the triangles in half. sometimes I cut the hot dog in half and on some I add some cheese. They're done when the rolls are browned. Now you've got me hungry for some.

Pigs in a blanket, I havent had those in a long time. Do you think those are a good breakfast food? :)

Thanks all!

Gail T, it is funny that you ask because when I mentioned pigs in a blanket to my friend she thought it was sausages wrapped in pancakes!

Yum, I love those. I haven't made them in forever, maybe tonight.....
I slit the hot dog, put a piece of cheese in it, roll a piece of cooked bacon around it and then roll the dough around.
Very tasty!!!!:D

tiggerlover -- some restaurants (e.g. Perkins, etc.) do call sausage wrapped in pancakes "pigs in the blanket", so your friend is 1/2 right. :)

When I was a kid, my Mom would make pork sausage wraped in pancakes, and yep, we called them pigs in a blanket!

I never had a pancake pig, but it is an interesting concept. I wonder how they would taste with syrup poured over top.

tiggerlover,

We make "cocktail wienies" a lot when we play cards. We use cresent rolls - no need to doll them out - just unroll them from the tube. Then I usually get 4 smaller triangles from each triangle. First cut off the tip at about 2". Then I cut the remaining piece into 1/3s. Roll the dough around the cocktail wienie putting the end underneath (so that it does not unroll.) Then bake until the roll is golden brown. Ummmmm. May have to make these for cards tonight! :)

I do the same thing as BethR.

I don't think they'd taste good with pancake syrup, though. Serve mustard with them instead. One can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls yields 32 pigs, which equals about a one-pound package of cocktails franks.

Jersey Janice,

I think that the ones that they are talking about to serve syrup with are the ones made with pancakes rolled around breakfast sausages.
You are right - mustard would be the best accompanyment (sp???) to go with the ones WE make! :)
