Piercings/Tattoos

I think it depends on the extreme of the piercing/tatt. If a person has their tongue pierced, or eyebrow, or lip, it is all I can do to look at them. I don't like "in yer face" anything, and some facial piercings scream that to me. It's definitely my own problem, shouldn't stop anyone from doing what they want to themselves, but if I were a potential employer, I think this would be a huge consideration.

I have heard the word now for piercings/tattoos is body "modification"..reminds me fixing up a car.

BTW, I have a tat on my outer ankle which no one ever notices..and cartilidge piercing in one of my ears..my hair covers it when I am in certain situations..like job interviews.
My sister has her nose pierced. and it's so small, I like it.

I hate the HUGE sparkly looking jewelry some people wear.

My piercings are able to be hidden. So I don't have to worry about job interviews.

I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever judged anybody for having tattoos and piercing. I’ve had my eyebrow pierced (when I was much younger) and I have my tragus pierced (as does my daughter). I don’t think that a LOT of tattoos are attractive, but that is just my personal opinion. It does not make me judge a person’s character, I just think that a great many on one body (meaning such that most of the body is covered) isn’t attractive, just like I think certain hair styles or clothing styles aren’t attractive. It says nothing about the person though. I actually got a tattoo on my last birthday. I NEVER thought I’d do something like that, but here I am, with a rather large Harry Potter tattoo on my shin. :rotfl: The look on my daughter's face when I came home with that thing made it all worth while! ;)

I thought that was tramp stamp...

while tattoos and piercings other than ears are not for me. I dont mind it on other people. I just dont wanna be a little old lady in 40 years with sagging tattoos.....

so....don't get sagging tattoos:confused3 Mine is a heart.

I think self expression is fine, totally up to the individual. But I admit whenever I see another scrolling lower back tattoo, I think, "There's another one." They all seem to look alike to me. And every time I see someone with a tongue piercing, I think to myself, "They are going to have huge dental bills when they crack a tooth." Yowch!

I know a woman who has tattoos all over her arms & legs, and people give her strange looks...but she is the best mom I know! Totally breaks the stereotype of what tattooed people are expected to be like.

I don't have any tattoos yet, but am thinking about getting one this summer. I think foot tattoos are really cute! Unfortunately it's supposed to be one of the most painful places to get one, but it will be smallish, so no biggie. My dad, stepmom, and stepsister all have several tattoos, so now I won't look so odd! ;)

I meant one that used to be on my shoulder would end up on my ribcage or those tribal bands that are cool would one day end up looking like a picket fence, LOL

I dont think differently of people who have them. It isnt what I want for me, I have a thing about needles and dont care for pain :rotfl: , but its your body if its your thing go for it!

One of my dds therapists had a lower back tattoo and DD was fascinated by it. It was a beautiful fairy. The first time DD noticed it the therapist said "Isnt that silly? I let someone colour all over me!" DD thought it was hilarious!

Well put. But let's face it, aging tattoos on old men are pretty scary. I admit to thinking on more than one visit to Ft Lauderdale: Please, cover up, I don't want to see the (now) bizarrely stretched out, mishapped lady tattoo you got when you and your buddies went ashore 45 years ago.

I don't have any piercings or tattoos, but I don't think less of anyone who does.

My ex-husband has a bunch of tattoos (our daughter's name on his back, plus a bunch of other stuff around it, his other daughter's name on his chest, with stuff around it and he's in the process of getting sleeves done), plus he used to have his nipples pierced (I think he let those close up though) and he has his ears pierced. I know he looks scary to some people  , but he looks normal to me. I'll just tell our daughter to take after me in the body art department until she leaves my house. :rotfl:

I never thought a "certain type" got tattoos or piercings. Especially since a lot of them can be hidden to the public view.

I have 11 piercings and 1 tattoo. I have a 2nd planned, I just need to find a good time to do it (have a lot of summer travel plans so I'd rather not deal with a healing tattoo then).

I admit I am looking to find a good place for this one though. My current one is on my left shoulder blade. I've lost 70 pounds since I got the tat and it looks the same as it did. So i want to make sure wherever it goes, it won't be at risk for stretching as badly as some places are fort hat kind of thing.

I have no tattoos and only have my ears pierced. I find most people who have them are younger than I am. I do know some 20 somethings who are now finding out that those tattoos are causing them to not get the employment they want.

I have seen some tattoos that look nice and can be hidden when appropriate. I have also seem some that are just way over the top and not attractive at all. Some of the new body art that is under the skin makes me cringe.

Oh...I definately agree with that. Some things make me wonder what they are thinking.

I kind of think a "certain type" would get a tattoo on their face or their hands. I met a very odd guy who is doomed to retail b/c he has a partial spider web tattooed on his forehead and a very large, huge breasted woman-spider hybrid tattooed on his forearm down through his hands. He also has several facial piercings. I just don't think someone like that is destined to be a leader of industry.

Most people I know who have tattoos and are professionals have them in hidden places. Mine is on my back. DH's is on his upper bicep. I haven't even seen one of those ankle tattoos in a long time.

DH and I agree about that...no face/neck or hand tattoos. You should be able to cover them for certain occasions.
