Hello all!
Will be going to Disneyland and DCA this week!! Yippeeeee!!
Wondering how strict the cast members are about masks while taking pictures?

There are CMs on ‘mask duty’ throughout both parks. You really don’t want them to have to confront a group of maskless guests posing for photos.

We stopped for selfies and watched and waited for other groups to complete their photos and no guests removed their masks.

Oh really? That's funny. I never saw anyone being told to pull up a mask. And we saw plenty of people pulling them down for selfies last weekend. I accidentally walked all the way from Alfresco Terrace to Radiator Springs Racers maskless and passed by numerous CMs, including plaids and "suits" and NOT ONE person said anything. It was absolutely a mistake on my part and when I realized, I freaked out and grabbed it out of my pocket and put it on. I did the same stupid thing after lunch at Flos and left the table and went all the way to the bathroom maskless. I felt like such an idiot, but again, no one noticed or cared.

We saw a CM in the esplanade, as soon as we arrived at 9, tell a guest to wear his mask because he was on property. Another CM in Fantasyland walked up to a family to tell the father he needed to wear his mask correctly.

A GR CM is Galaxy’s Edge was scanning everyone walking by as we talked to him and he said he was there specifically for mask compliance.

I replied based on my experience and didn’t want to encourage anyone to remove their masks.

They’re likely to handle the same WDW handled it. Follow the rules in place. They go out of their way to put huge warnings on every web page, the entrance to the park and all around the place so guests understand, know what to expect and have clearly agreed to those terms by the time they get inside the park. Guests are fully aware before agreeing to buy tickets or walking thru the gate.

This has been our experience also. When we were at Harbor Galley, I made it maybe 3 steps before a GR reminded me to put it back on (I simply forgot.). We watched numerous people get asked to wear their mask properly. I have several friends who are GR and are on "mask patrol" and they have a lot of stories about people's excuses. Most are now in pairs because of how bad some behaviors have been about mask compliance. I don't get it, it is well advertised. If you don't want to wear a mask, wait til the mask requirement is dropped by Disney. Don't take it out on the cast members.

My last experience was opening week (and the 9 mos prior to that), but we are coming back down this weekend, and will see how it is then.

I doubt “no one noticed or cared.”

I saw a cadre of security escort a large group of teens/young adults out for not wearing masks on POTC yesterday, so they are definitely enforcing.

Are they everywhere at once? No. Taking it off in front of a CM who is taking your photo is bad form. Your best bet for a maskless photo is in the designated eating areas between bites and sips. There are a ton of those scattered around the park, frame your photos creatively and you’ll hardly notice!

Even if they aren't strict, please don't put CM's in that position. Don't drop your mask and make them enforce the rules. Don't ask if you can be the exception to the rule.

You know, with all of the new mask guidances etc., I had thought that Disneyland/California Adventure was allowing you to take off your mask outdoors...glad I looked at this thread and confirmed that the California parks still require masks, except while "actively eating or drinking while stationary, or swimming". *Sigh*. Oh well, annoying, but we will still have a blast. We can take mask breaks during meals, or at our room at The Grand, or while in the pool.

Disneyland CA is bound by the rules of CA, so they can’t allow masks off at all yet. It remains to be seen what will happen after June 15; the CA guidance isn’t really clear.

I really feel for the poor CMs. Mask enforcement was so (extremely) strong every time we went to DTD and DL on opening day; I can’t imagine how much abuse they’ve taken and how difficult it’s been hearing some of these more recent stories.

A friend of mine posted a selfie picture of her family in front of the castle on Saturday, and she commented that the CM had complimented and thanked them for keeping their masks ON for the picture. I hate it that following a basic rule is worthy of a compliment.

You can also be mask-less while sitting in your lounge chair on the pool deck :beach:
