Pictures of my Trade to the Hilton Hawaiian Village

We joined the TUG (Timeshare Users Group) and placed a request offering to trade a week at Disney for a week in Hawaii. In addition to having a place to advertise for a trade, the TUG has a review site for different timeshare. We made sure to indicate that we would only consider trades with rating comparable to DVC ratings. I placed my add about 18 month before i wanted to go. We traded a 1BR-Boardwalk Guarentee for a 2BR- Ocean view.

Like the rent/trade board, there is the element of trust involved with a private trade. Make sure you do get something in writing as to what you are agreeing to.

I believe there are other websites mentioned here in a few thread where you can go and seek a private trade.

As to when we went - we were there from June 18 - 25. It was busy, but not crowded. Summer and Winter are the busier times in Hawaii. I think Winter is the busiest with the snowbirds and the whale watchers.

Great pictures! Now that you have had a taste of Hawaii, are you ready to go see the REAL thing on the outer islands?;) We use Oahu as a starting and ending point, but we usually spend most of our time on Kauai, Hawaii, or Maui. Looking to trade again soon.

Great photos. I think I stayed in that building on my honeymoon in 99 before Hilton made it into timeshare units.

Thanks for the memories.

Great Pix Robin. Brought back memories. We were just there last October. My brother owns HGVC and invited us to stay there with him.

After flying from Indiana, we got off the airplane, took a taxi into town to the resort to check-in. When I saw the open air lobby I knew we were in Hawaii:p

When we were there they were having the Mrs. America contest on a temporary stage they built right outside the tower, out on the lawn. The hosts were Florence Henderson and Hal Linden.

You made a good trade. I wouldn't trade my Disney points for most other timeshares, but the Hawaiian Village one is surely first class and well worth the trade.

simply beautiful!!! We haven't been to Hawaii in years, makes me want to go back so bad.

Wow ! What beautiful pictures !! Going to Hawaii is on my 'dream/must do list' - thanks for the inspiration ! :smooth:

not to poop on your parade but using your DVC points a the mauna lani is a way better value.......i have stayed at both and would go to the kohola gold coast anyday over wakiki..........

Your pictures bourht back memories. My wife and I honeymooned at the HHV 15 years ago and stayed at the Alii Tower (forgive the mispelling). Would love to go back.

DVC points for hotel room for 7 nights at Mauna Lani: 343, 406, or 511, depending on view. (plus $95 fee).

DVC points for 1br BW preferred view 7 nights traded for HGVC 2br villa at HHV (23rd floor is 'plus' view category): 200, 214, 252, or 270 depending on season (no $ fee).

A trade to an II resort if available (2br high season) would have been 270 points plus $75.

All in all, I think Robin made an excellent trade!

i think you missed the point..........it is not the points.........it is the quality of the resort and its surrounds.........for those of you who dont know the mauni lani is in our conceirge collection and has been rated the best hotel in hawaii for 8 of the last 10 yrs.........

i think it was around 350 points for two rooms for 5 days..........and worth every penny........we stayed in disneyland for 5 dyas then on oahu for 7 days and the big island for 5 days and maui for 4 days all on disney and the mauni lani was by far the best it was not even close

Thanks for sharing your pictures.:D

No Bongo - you missed my point...

I wanted to stay on Waikiki Beach - not Maui, not Kauai, not Hawaii.

Each island has its own appeal to different visitor. This stay we chose Oahu. I had many offers for the other islands and did consider the Mauna Lani.

I do not debate that the Mauna Lani is wonderful. It is a high class resort and spa. We are considering it for future stays, but one thing it lacks is a full size kitchen. This is something we have come to enjoy on our trips. So when the time comes, we will have to decide between the service offered by a first class resort or the freedom of a timeshare.

I think I spent about 222 points; the price of a 1BR preferred at BWV is in July. I seem to remember that it was comprable for a 2BR exchange to Hawaii through II. I also realize that had I used the II exchanges, I would not have had the Plus view I got.

Note: This thread is not a debate on what resorts are best. It is just a place for people to see what they would get if they traded here. As someone else posted previously, I think it would be nice if we started a database of pictures from various trades so we could see what we are getting.
