Pictures of my new German Shepherd puppies

Awwww..how darling..:lovestruc

I kind of hate it when folks post photos of their puppies because I can't have one.. LOL :rotfl:

I always go ahead and look though..:headache:

Zelda didn't have both ears reliably stand up until she was about 5 months or so. It was so cute - some days one would be up, then the other, then both for a day or two, then back down... she's about 3 months old in the first picture and probably about 5 months old in the second one.

Your Zelda is adorable! How old is she in the pic with your other dog? How many pounds is she now?

My pups father is huge, mom looks average female size. Kato is about 4 lbs heavier than Sasha so I think he'll be the size of a pony, lol.

OK, sorry to those that didn't want to see more.:upsidedow I'll be sure to post when these two little home wreckers are up to no good, then you'll lose those baby feelings.

Beautiful - enjoy them!!! Your Sasha looks very much like my Sasha at that age!

Oh boy, hang onto your hat! :rotfl2:

Congratulations, they're beautiful! I can't blame you for getting two...

We had a brother/sister pair and they were awesome together.

Looking forward to seeing many pictures as they grow.

These were mine. Thirteen years went by really fast, both are now passed but I still miss them so much!

We love the GS we had one and she was the best dog!!!! When we move to a country setting we will have another one! Thats in our near future!!!:lovestruc

OHMYGOODNESS. They are adorable!! I've been begging DFiance to get us a Shepard puppy but right now we just don't have the time.

Your new puppies are so so so sweet!!

OH MY GOSH they are adorable!!! We had a GS growing up-my brother and I learned to walk with her-and she was the best. Very protective of us, but great with kids.

Here's a pic of my baby when she was 11 wks old:

She is about 10 months old in the picture with our Lab.
This one is at about a year old

This was last Mother's Day. You can see she is a little taller than our Lab and shes at least 5 1/2' long from nose to tail. She is on the thin side and we have trouble getting her to eat so she only weighs about 60 to 65 pounds. I'd be happier if she was closer to about 75 pounds

Oh and for comparison my DS's are 6'4" and 5'9" so she is a pretty good size for a female german shepherd

They were beautiful, as is your current one. I love the pic in the back of your truck.

Thank you for the book suggestions. I am sleep deprived because they are only 8 weeks old & I'm up every 2 hours but I am reading those books in between. They have been extremely helpful.

I've never had two dogs before. These two love to play but they play fight as well. They growl & bite each other, pounce on each other, etc. Is that normal? I'm assuming it is puppy play but it won't be cute when they are full size.:scared1:

I need to put in a call to the breeder. I admit we were impulsive with the second one. He's the calmer of the two. They also whine when one goes outside while the other remains in, so I'm worried about separation anxiety. I'm trying to work on out of sight, out of mind. I hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew.

I hope as they mature they will outgrow this. We have our first vet appointment next week and I have a list of questions for him. They are so lovable and they really are learning quickly. We are being firm & consistent.

I am so looking forward to going to work this weekend so DH is on baby duty!:rotfl: I never thought I'd look forward to work as a place of respite!

We had the same problem getting our last GSD to eat. She was only about 55-60 lbs. She always looked thin and she was a very picky eater. Zelda really is beautiful!

Our lab was 2 years old when we got Zelda. Once they got used to each other all they do is play. It often almost would appear they are fighting, they wrestle and pounce on each other all of the time. Actually it's really funny to watch and it keeps them occupied. Both are pretty active and I think either one of them on their own would drive somebody nuts! Their latest thing is fetching the frisbee - we have to spend at least 10 to 15 minutes every night when I get home from work out throwing it for them.

Why do I keep opening this thread? I do NOT need to see puppy pictures.

I must say after reading a few replies here--after raising my puppy, I cannot imagine a dog being picky and not having a tremendous appetite. Max's belly is like a bottomless pit. That dog would eat nonstop if he could.

I'm loving the pictures! I adore all dogs, but I've always wanted a German Shep. I have no room for one, though. Best wishes to you and your new babies!

It is a little surprising (and concerning; remember feeling that way myself) to see how rough puppies can be. But they are learning from eachother.

Stay focused on your training with them. I use the term "That's Enough" for a lot of things. It means that what they're doing is ok, but I want them to stop now. (As opposed to "No", which is something I do NOT want them to do.) Dogs learn to distinguish this.

An example - I had a stranger come to my house the other day and he came in unexpectedly. My dog was on the deck on the other side of my screen door. Naturally, she was very concerned he was there, not knowing who he was. She barked. And I told her, "That's Enough", so she stopped (but didn't take her eyes off him, lol). But she knew it was ok for her to do that. See?

So in the case of your pups, if they get too rough, I'd probably tell them That's Enough, and focus on making them individually sit, lay down, play with a ball, etc. Keep them leashed for more control. Absolutely a challenge with two (spoken as a Mom of twins).

My brother/sister pair were actually a year apart, so I didn't have two pups at once - I got to train them individually and it was easier with the second as she had a good role model already. With my current dog, I still had the 12 yr old male (who could barely walk and used wheels, lol) with us when we got her, and she tortured him ;) sometimes her puppy antics were overwhelming. I had to set limits a lot and wondered if she was getting too rough, etc. But I told her That's Enough, as she loved him to pieces and was trying to play with him, and put her through her "doggie push ups" of training basics in order to redirect her. That definitely was a challenge also, but not an insurmountable one. I would definitely get into a training class asap, preferably group, so the dogs learn to behave around other dogs, including eachother.

Ah, separation anxiety. I started yesterday to write about my current dog's, but didn't finish. Too long, lol. But yes, Shepherds tend to be obsessive/compulsive, some more than others. And IME, females tend to be worse (I've had 4 males and 2 females now). I've met tons and tons of female GSD owners on my excursions and just about everyone says the same thing (although my previous female pictured above in pink was an exception, possilbly because it was her brother that she was obsessed about [if you look closely in the picture, you'll see she's focused on him and not the ball, lol - they all have their little quirks]). I've worked on it since the day my current dog came home, and at 5 1/2, I've accepted it's just her. It's made her a big challenge in a lot of ways, as she goes nuts if you're out of her sight for even a few seconds. But it also makes us very close as she's never more than a few feet away from either DH or I at any given time, and we don't mind, really, as she's a great dog around the house.

One other thing about females is that they tend to be dominant (as mine is as well). This is fine if you have a male that's submissive, which it sounds like yours probably is, and the fact that they've been together forever will work in their favor; dogs new to the female can be a challenge as they must submit to her and if they don't, again, it can be a problem. In the wild, they'd be in charge of the pack and running the show with an iron paw. In domestic life, it can be a problem. So socialization is huge. In having two you also need to be aware of "pack mentality", which means that together, dogs might behave differently than they will individually, and not in good way - kind of akin to a bar room brawl. So again, socialization and training are key.

And lastly, GSDs can be very protective of their families. They have an innate ability to sense friend or foe, however they really need that direction from their leader because without it, they think they're in charge, and sometimes the way they'll handle things get them in big trouble. I wish I could find something I posted once about the anatomy of a bite of a GSD. It's a little bit different than the bite of many other dogs, and makes sense based on what they were originally bred for. But bottom line is, the more socialized they are, the more they know that nothing bad is going to happen when people are around, and training makes them know they have to look to you for direction, and they're quite happy to do that if it's available. I'm glad you're enjoying the books, they'll steer you in the right direction.

Sorry so long. Hope it made sense and was helpful. You know, many, many people have had GSDs and love the breed. They may have different experiences and advice from mine, and that's fine. I'm just sharing my own and what's worked for me.

Pardon the red eye - sure wish I had my Oly dSLR back then.

Pea-n-Me you always have great advice. I totally agree with the female GSD info. We've discovered that the few times DH, myself, and DS13 leave home for a couple of days it's like Zelda ends up with the runs for weeks on end. I think she makes herself sick. She is not the dominated dog - only because the Lab was 2 years old when we brought her home. She absolutely does not tolerate other dogs well. She will behave on the leash and she's not uncontrollable when we've gone to the vet - but I really wish I would have sociallized her more with other dogs when she was a pup. I just tell everyone that she "doesn't play well with others".

ALL THESE PIC'S ARE SOOOOOOOO ADORABLE!!!!!!!:lovestruc:lovestruc We have a german shepherd also. She's 6 years old and the best dog any family could ever ask for. Seeing all the these puppy pictures makes me want to get a puppy. Wonder:idea: what hubby would say if I begged enough for a puppy?
