How about something to celebrate Valentine's Day?

Yikes and you aren't used to that cold either!

We're still in the minus temps at 11 AM but it will go up to zero by late afternoon. And tomorrow will reach a high of 26 degrees.

No Kathy...we're not! 100 degree heat is more "our style"! We're struggling; at least we have our fireplace for extra warmth. Utility companies asking for "limited use" or we'll go into "brown outs". Feel especially bad for Allie; no fireplace in the dorm, can't use heaters or electric blankets in dorm rooms and this morning their room was at 62. Not terrible but with outside temp of 14, strong north wind and snow it's only going to get colder. Heating units just can't keep up! My double insulated tee shirt quilt is sure getting used today! 😁 They checked yesterday for extra clothing, blankets, insulation for window and everything is sold out. Today roads are iced so they're stuck; can't even get anywhere to check if shelves have be restocked. We even checked into getting her and her roommate checked into a hotel but they couldn't get there if they were allowed! Coldest temperatures in a century for our area. 🥶 Hard to imagine -11  and you'll actually be warmer tomorrow than we will! But get this...next Sunday our predicted high is 73! :tink:

I hadn't realized that you could end up in brownouts and not have the supplies available to for people like Allie to buy! The only time I couldn't get warm I was winter camping and it was only 20 degrees. I just got up and started doing jumping jacks at 4 AM. And your weather is certainly schizo! Makes me believe in climate change for sure!

We are in "deep do-do" 😨 down here! Almost 3 MILLION without power. So far, THANK GOD, we're still okay on that front but expecting it to go out any minute. Other's (including both DD's) are either having brownouts or totally without. One of our friends had power go off at 3:45 Sunday afternoon and they're being told not to expect it back on until Thursday. Our low last night was 11 degrees; wind chill is below 0. Allie's dorm room is 55 degrees this morning. I'm all for moving toward "greener energy" but this situation, for us, proves it's not as efficient. Won't "get on my gas and oil soapbox" here there are a LOT of Texans praising it right now. We have our fireplace, generator and propane heaters if needed but my heart is breaking for others. My BFF sent a text this morning, their entire city is "dark"...the animal shelter is really in dire need of help. Both daughters have fireplaces too so we're okay...but I sure am worried about Allie! 😨 Another ice storm predicted for Wednesday! Been MANY years since I've seen this scene on our street...and my silly doggy is LOVING IT!

It's 3 AM and 13 degrees; my "Operation Safe the Water Pipes" shift is done. :goodvibes Good night...

I hope you are at least warm yourself and getting some sleep today! You are definitely getting some of the worst of this storm. I saw last night on TV that the entire state of Texas is under Emergency Declaration and 4.3 million people are without power. That is definitely scary! Thinking of you and wish I could help

Up to 5 million without power now but we're still good. VERY lucky and little did we know when we bought this lot almost 50 years ago we were picking the perfect spot to be! We are on the same electrical grid as our local hospital AND sheriff's department 😊. They both have generators but local power tries to keep those buildings up and running. Like you and walking to the mailbox 😊, I can't stay out very long without "painful cold" sitting in but staying warm in front of the fireplace. I am just SO thankful we've kept our power; our "worst problem" has been the digital TV stations cutting "in and out"! 😂 We've been SO lucky! Our low was 13 last night but Allie had -1 at 5:30 this morning. :faint: Forecast is calling for more freezing rain this evening but that should end by noon tomorrow and we start warming up! :mickeyjum:tink:

March 2016 on a Colorado house hunting trip we stopped to visit Rocky Mountain NP. What a beautiful but bitterly cold day!
