Thanks Traylorc! another fantastic lion shot.

Renysmom, cool flying dog shot.

You can adjust your F stop to get a clear or blurry background = depth of field.

I understand DOF and Aperture. I was wondering if it was done PP because it was shot at 37mm f5.6. I don't know how much distance there is between the subject and the background. I was just curious. My shot of the gold street performer was at f2.8 and my background is not really OOF that much. I had about 20 feet between the performer and the wall.

How did you go about blurring the background? The seperation looks great. It has that 3D effect.

Darn, caught by my own Exif data! Yes, this shot did have some post processing to alter the depth of field. There are actually three separate layers applying different levels of gaussian blur. The first is a gradiant going diagionally up and to the right to give a small amount of blur to the bushes. The second is up the tree trunk on the left, giving it a very slight blur. And the third, the strongest, is applied to the torii gate itself. The bonsai tree also has layers to separate it from the various blurs and to apply curves to brighten it a bit.

Here are the before and after:

I knew it! EXIF data's a B%#*@ ain't it? Just kidding. I was asking because I think it looks awesome. I need to learn this trick. I have CS5, but haven't really played with it much. I would love to use this on my Gold Man shot. I shot it at 50mm f2.8 but I want the background more blown out. I didn't have a Tele lens with me.

Anyway, it looks awesome! Great shot and processing.

Hey guys here is one I just edited pretty quick in Photoshop using an example like Dave used on his with the gradient tool and applying blur. I wanted to get the background a little more blurry but once I saw this version I was happy what I did by accident did lol . I haven't really used Photoshop all that much before but with result like this I just may have to lol
