It seems like I read on the board somewhere about getting your cabin steward to pack a picnic to take ashore. We are planning a couple of excursions (Coki beach) on our own (2/7 Eastern) and were wondering if this was true? If it is true, how well did it work for you. I am not sure it would be worth the trouble.....
9 more days til our first cruise!!!!!!!

Ronandot - We called room service the night before we docked and had them deliver sandwiches, chips and cookies for the next day. I can't remember how they were wrapped. I had brought along baggies so maybe I used those. Anyway they seem to have no problem with the request as Im sure people do it all the time. It worked out great! Have fun on your trip!:jumping1: :

I don't know about the room service but I have been to Coki beach and loved it! We rented snorkle gear from Coral World right next door and the snorkling was great there!

Here is a helpful hint. I packed my cosmetics in a soft sided cooler. The type a lunch will fit in. I used that as a carry on. When on the ship I just took out my cosmetics and WALLA had a great thing to carry lunch or snacks on shore. It was easy to get fresh apples, oranges from the breakfst buffett.

aaronamy....
Thanks for the information. Did you need to keep the food iced or were the sandwiches PB&J or something???

jiffymom.....
Thanks for your hint. Good idea about the fruit.

If we do Coral World and Coki Beach on our own, are there lockers where we can put our packed lunch/towels, etc. while in Coral World? Are they big enough to hold a soft sided cooler? I was thinking maybe two smaller lunch-sized coolers may be easier to fit in lockers (if they're available).

Ronandot - I can't remember what type of sandwich, maybe ham. I think you have some choices. We put them in the fridge in the room for the night then put them in our soft sided cooler that morning and they were fine. If you are worried about them staying cool bring some freezer bags and put a little ice in them and that should keep them cool:p

Room service will deliver what food you order but I highly doubt the room steward would pack the picnic for you....unless, they are really going above and beyond the call of duty!!!

We always bring ziplock bags of various sizes...they work great for many things. We have even ordered the chicken fingers and brought them along as lunch when we were ashore. Love cold chicken!!!

Your room steward will bring you ice when you ask. We bring a small soft-sided cooler and put a bag of ice in it to keep food cool.

Where do you keep the coolers while you're in Coral World? Do you carry them with your or are there lockers? If there are lockers, how big are they?

(is that enough questions for one post??!! LOL!)

This is a little off the subject, but just thought I'd share. We were at Coki Beach in the spring of '01. We planned a SNUBA excursion on our own (booked it before we left on the cruise). SNUBA is like SCUBA, only your tank floats on a raft above your head. I don't know the minimum age, but my family had a blast. The price includes free passes to Coral World. You might want to do a search for SNUBA St. Thomas if you are interested.
