While staying at Aulani, and moving on to Maui afterwards, we hoped to do some hiking and beach exploring. Many guidebooks have recommended packing a picnic lunch in order to be able to stop and chill as we see places that pique our interest. Any recommendations for where to buy or rent cheap beach chairs and buy good picnic lunches (sandwiches mostly)? I'm guessing we could pack small collapsible coolers in our luggage. Sigh, the packing list is getting longer and longer...

Thanks in advance!

We did three other islands as well. I packed chairs, a folding cooler bag, some disposable Tupperware, ziplock bags for ice (since I was afraid we might not have a way to refreeze ice mats/bricks every night), some chamois towels, and our own snorkel gear. These chairs only weigh 4 lb each, are very slim (just a couple inches thick), fit in my big suitcase, have a shoulder strap to carry, and shook/wiped off easily. Totally worth the effort IMO! Sorry I don’t have many specific recommendations on where to buy lunches, but there’s a nice store in Paia that had them. We ate lunch at Ulupalakua Ranch one day and if you eat meat and like to see the countryside (farmland versus beaches), I highly recommend it!
