I scheduled dinner for a large, PICKY family!! I heard the steak is pretty good and I see they offer lobster and shrimp. I have a couple questions, though. The menu says you're seated with other people. How akward is that? Can someone describe the layout to me, I'm not sure I understand. And the menu says the salad is served with ginger dressing. Are there other choices? I'd like to get a salad with the dinner because the appetizers don't sound to appetizing to me!!

we ate there last friday-it was great. you sit 8 to a table we had 5 people and we were seated with 3 young ladies(all under 18). you can get a salad-my daughters did-it was good. I had the steak & shrimp combo-all the food is cooked reight in front of you-a big rectangular table-big grill in the middle-our chef was great & very funny. my kids don't eat mushrooms-so i told the chef-no problem-more for us. the steak was a good size steak eeven w/combo. it was our best meal @ wdw. highly recommend it. :cheer2:

How bout that salad dressing?! We won't eat ginger dressing or those appetizers!! Do they have other choices?

I agree! It was our best meal, too! Our family sat together, 4 adults and 4 kids, and even the picky kids enjoyed it. I have the best picture of my 3 year old (who only eats mac & cheese and hot dogs at home) eating seaweed with chopsticks! My nephew has food allergies and they were great about preparing his food seperately. And the food was so fresh, I ate about the only vegetables I'd had all week there.

The best part of it was the kids were entertained, watching their food being cooked. I highly reccomend it.

wow! the ginger salad dressing was great! I suppose they must have an alternative-just ask when you order-they were all very nice. the seating hostesses were very fond of my mike wasoswki pin!!

I don't believe there is any other salad dressing available.

Is that horrible that we're that picky? Great food - you think we could settle for ginger dressing! um.. Bring our own? That would be hilarious!! :rotfl2:

you can get packets of salad dressing at some counter service rests. they have packaged salads-I know they have them at captn cooks in the poly-then get the salad neked!!

Not intended as a flame, but an honest question.. if you readily admit that your family is overly picky and won't eat the appetizers or the salad dressing (ginger dressing is a staple at habachi style restaurants) then why pick Teppanyaki? I can think of many other wonderful restaurants at Disney that may be more suited to your family.. especially if you're looking for steak/shrimp/lobster.

Unless you think your fam might be adventurous and try the apps, salad, and various sauces, I can't see wasting that sort of money/dining credits. Just my IMO, though!

Teppanyaki is a *performance*, so it's a bit weird to make special requests. Here is someone cooking all your food to order in front of you, which is difficult enough choreography without additions or subtractions! Of course, this is Disney, so they'll try to accomodate you, but why not just go someplace else considering there are so many choices? :confused3

ETA: DH and I dined there on our honeymoon almost 8 years ago and it was wonderful! We sat with two different families from Mass. and they were all very excited for us, since it was just a day after our wedding. I'll never forget the nice company or wonderful dining experience.

I'm sure much nicer restaurants than Teppanyaki have accomodated people's wishes. As for why we're picking it - because there are limited options for a large group open for the first week in December. And the main entrees are supposedly very good. And that's where the value comes in, not the salad. They were questions regarding options, that's all. And momomonster.. you said it. They're cooking to order.

Like I said, no flames.. I was just perplexed. You take away the exotic options at a habachi table and you're just left with meat and veggies. But to each their own! I hope you have a good experience!

And you're right. Steak and veggies.. That's about all I can get some of them to eat. I know it sounds boring, but.. to each his own. That wasn't directed as much to you. You gave suggestions. I can appreciate that. But to say it's weird to make changes - or for lack of better terminology, "rude", that's a stretch I think. Tons of people on these boards make changes to there order all the time. Do you get what I'm saying?

I have the same issues with my family. I do whatever I can to make sure the one who likes everything, the vegetarian and the one who only eats meat and potatoes can all eat at the same table for a family meal. It's annoying, but it's what mom's do.

No one called you rude, so please don't put words in my mouth. (That is rude.)

But I will stand by my comment that it is WEIRD to want to eat somewhere when 1) you don't like ANY of the appetizers 2) you worry communal eating will be awkwark and 3) you don't like the salad dressing and they're not serving ranch or whatever it is you'd prefer. Early December is one of the least busy times at the parks and I can't imagine having a tough time to find someplace to suit your needs better.

In August, 4 of us went to Teppenyaki. DH picky tried the sushi sampler(cause he could on the dining plan) which he liked and liked the seaweed. DD(16- picky) tried the seaweed and tried the edamame which she liked there was a lot. Two of us got the salad. The dressing was very good. If you weren't sure you would like it, get it on the side.

As for entrees DH said it was one of the best meals ever eaten. :teeth: :teeth:

I just told everyone to keep an open mind, they did and we had a great meal. And I believe they did ask the girls if there was anything they wouldn't eat that they were cooking.

As for seating, you are around 3/4 of the table and the chef has one long side he works with.

Monster,
I actually asked someone to describe the seating because I didn't understand it. Had no clue how it was set up. Not many restaurants have that kind of seating. And as you see from others comments, there are many "weird" picky people. I feel you're being somewhat judgemental. And if you'd like to make some calls for my priority seating, that would be great!! Because for the last month and a half, all I've heard is "Sorry, they have no seating available."

I see you have very few posts so maybe you don't know this board is intended to be civil. People can choose to eat where they want and calling it weird is uncalled for.

By the way, early December is shaping up to be a very busy time at Disney this year. I had trouble with some of my ADR's also.

Have a good day.

I was wondering if I was the only one catching that. By no means wanted to start anything on the most fun, helpful website online, but I didn't expect that kinda response when I posted some questions. Much like everyone else on the boards, I'm stressed and making reservations for 25 people. Had questions regarding the restaurant, ya know? I was wondering if maybe it was me. Thanks for reassuring me it wasn't. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
