As my title suggests my family is a bit well a lot more than a bit on the picky side. Strange sauces, weird spices, seafood, all are to be avoided. Heck, I don’t even want it on the table next to me…..;)

So the adventure becomes finding food that we like in WDW without eating counter service chicken strips all week…. Which reading some of the menus on allears doesn’t sound like a half bad idea….:rolleyes1

The cast:

DM – My mom! Thankful every day that my mom is also my very best friend and a fellow Disney/Florida/travel lover. Picky in her own right but will eat some fish dishes where I will not.

DS – My only child and the joy of my life. 14 years old but most days eats like a bird. This kid even turns down the ice cream cart…:scared1: Most of his meals were ordered off the kids menu because most of the time he won’t even finish those portions.

Me – Disney lover and extremely picky eater.

On with the reviews….

Kona Café

We ended up in WDW earlier than planned as an ice storm hit our area and our flight schedule was moved up. So instead of quick counter service we had time for a meal. Part of the reason for the trip was to view the holiday decorations so we decided to give the Poly a trip this first evening.
We did not have an ADR as this meal was entirely unplanned. I walked up and asked for seating for our party of 3 and was told 45-60 minute wait. Normally, I would have walked away but this evening we had plenty of time so we waited. About 25 minutes later our buzzer sounded and it was time for dinner!

DM - Coconut Almond Chicken - sauteed chicken breast served with Asian greens tossed with honey-lime dressing, golden pineapple, strawberries, and toasted almonds $16.49. This was definitely the best meal choice of the night. Although I did ask mom why she ordered chicken as she eats enough chicken at home that she could almost sprout feathers..... The chicken was extremely moist and more like a crusted chicken than anything odd… All in all a very safe choice for most picky eaters.

Me - Slow Roasted Prime Rib - mashed potatoes and stir-fried broccoli florets $21.99. The mashed potatoes were to die for as even with the skin on (not something I’d normally try) and made up for the very stringy prime rib. Has anyone ever had stringy prime rib??? I’m not sure it if was because I asked for it well done for what??? Probably the worst red meat dish I had all week…. Extremely disappointing

DS – Off the kids menu – garden salad (which I ate he won’t touch lettuce leaves), cheeseburger and fries. He said it was a good cheeseburger but ate very little. This would be a recurring theme most of the week…

Although, they had led us past the desert menu when we arrived, we ended up with no room for desert as the meal included an awesome breadbasket. Warm roles with a slightly sweat butter that was very good. I had hoped that they would have the pineapple bread that has disappeared from the O’Hana menu, but alas this was not to be. However, this was a nice starter!

All in all, if you have picky eaters in your crew then Kona is actually a safe choice. Mom talked about the chicken all week and I’m hoping it was just an off night for the prime rib.

Next up Beaches ‘n Creme

Great start - as a fellow picky eater, I will be interested to see where (and what) you ate ;)

Sorry for the delay!

This is favorite and an absolute must do for us. Definitely a picky eater paradise if there was ever one! This little old fashion soda shop is an absolute joy. The CMs that work in this restaurant really earn their tips as they really move. The old slight negative I can come up with is that the restaurant is soooo busy and with ice cream as a major component the floors are often very sticky and ADRs or PSs for us old timers are not accepted. It’s a first come first served establishment. And if you have a big group well good luck as seating is highly limited. But for our little group it works out perfect!

This particular meal was at the end of a glorious evening spent checking out the Holiday décor at the Epcot resorts. We were even able to view a few Epcot fireworks as we waited for our meal. And DS was able to do one of his favorite pastimes while waiting at the arcade that is right next door.

On with the meal….

Mom and I always order the same thing each time. A double cheeseburger w/ fries to split with an extra diet coke and most important… a No Way Jose to split at the end. This choice as always didn’t disappoint. With a made as mom used to make juicy best cheeseburger in WDW split so nicely on two plates with a healthy side of fries it was heaven on a plate.

DS ordered the children’s cheeseburger and fries plate that comes with desert. Now we’ve ordered the milk shake (vanilla of course) for him before, but now that the ice cream sundae comes with the meal it’s a waste so we stuck with just the sundae. He enjoyed his meal as well as his favorite meal other than pizza is cheeseburgers!

Gourmet it’s not, but this is definitely a safe choice and should be on any picky eater’s to do list!

Great reviews! My family and I aren't that adventorous either, so I love reviews like this! Just simple food!

Great reviews, thanks! We're going in July with my DM who is a self-proclaimed pickey eater and Kona cafe is on our list!
