My so only eats peanut butter sandwiches. He'll eat donuts and pancakes so breakfast is not an issue. He won't eat peanut butter AND jelly so crus tables are out. Last time I brought him some food. The dining staff tried pbjcrustables but again that won't work. Any suggestion on how I might can set up something with the dining staff?

How about pancakes for dinner? We have that at home on occasion.

Beyond that, I'm not sure they (the chefs) will (can?) do just a plain PB sandwich. You could bring your own and have it at the table. The servers can bring you the bread. They might even make the sandwich.

I'm afraid I'm mostly in the camp of "these are foods that are offered, you need to figure out what you want". Have you looked at the kid's menus to see if there's anything there that would work?

Will he eat anything besides a peanut butter sandwich? Are there special considerations that prevent you from offering him other items? The wait staff are wonderful and try their very best!

Yikes, sorry to hear you're dealing with this! How old is he? Has his doctor said anything about health ramifications of not eating fruits or vegetables? Perhaps just keep offering him a variety and eventually he'll come round. Good luck!

My recollection is at the buffet for breakfast they have spreadable PB in containers. I suggest picking up a few every morning with the bread, make your own PB sandwhiches and bring plastic baggies to hold them in and feed your child as you see fit.

Well I'm allergic to peanut butter but my sister is a very picky eater the chefs can do a lot for her I'm sure somehow they can manage it and plus after you tell your waiter after day 1 they will know it for the rest of the cruise

Thanks so much. I needed to look at that. He has texture issue too. I brought our own pb packets last time but our waiters stressed out not being able to bring him something from them. I was just seeing if I could prevent that.

Honestly you should bring your own again. My DD had very specific feeding needs when she was younger and she literally stopped eating by day 5 of our 7 day cruise b/c they weren't able to cater to her. They finally brought us a big bag of Lays for our cabin and she lived off french fries and chips for 2 days. Textural issues as well.

I agree with PP, bring your own pb and just ask for fresh bread each night. Don't stress yourself out a bit. The servers may make it for him or cut it up fun. They can just interact with him.

I have a question for those of you with picky eaters:

My 1 and a half year old is extremely picky. He eats greek yogurt, pancakes, waffles, bananas, grapes and oatmeal. Even if, by chance, we can get him to try anything new, he gags and it spits it out. I am curious, were your children also picky as toddlers? I am hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks!

I am so glad my kids are adventurous eaters. My 12 year old DS loves crab legs and shrimp and has had alligator, frog legs and caviar.

When our oldest was 2, we took a road trip (with my mom). All my DD would eat was French fries and milk. My mom was constantly lecturing me "you've got to make her eat!". Since she was pretty picky on her food ever since we started her on solids, I had already had a talk with her pediatrician. He said she was in perfect health, not unhappy, and just let her eat what she wants. He said it's possibile to set up big food issues if we focused on making her eat all the "right" foods. She's grown and out of the house now, and eats whatever she wants, is still healthy and happy.

Our youngest DS was similar. Only corn dogs and mac & cheese. Until I started having him help me make dinner. Then he would at least try a bite of different stuff once in a while. But still, basically, corn dogs and mac & cheese were his go-to food.

He's in college now, and bigger than I am. And healthy.

My DD7 is a great eater.. my DS4 is so picky we call him the carb baby... from the time of solids to the age 3 he only liked french fries and milk... he would gag trying anything else.. found out that his tonils were touching and causing sleeping issues eating issues... we had his tonils removed and adnoids but he is still picky just more variety. I have talked and worried until my dr said not to. We tried the not eating thing he will eat if hes that hungry doesnt work on a stuburn child... he liked fruit snacks so I would give him Juice Plus... although he is picky we can bribe him now and at least get him to try new things... we now are eating steak...

I have a similar story Princess Shmoo.......Our DS was the same. Since introducing solids he was picky...it got worse as he got older until he lived on french fries, vegemite sandwiches & milk & water. Doctor & dietician told us he is healthy & will be fine. He never lacked vital nutrients & was always energetic!! He is nearly 12 now & after a recent life threatening dose of pneumonia has decided independently that its time to try other foods. He loves broc, zucchini, cauliflower, chicken, fish & steak. Hooray!!!!

OP: I am sure your DS will be fine & will grow out of the pickiness. Good luck for the cruise :-)

My kids ate everything at 2 but by about 4 got quite picky. DD10 is now being more adventurous and likes trying new things. DS8 is still pretty picky but still eats most fruits and several other things so we can always find something for him. His big thing is textural when it comes to meats- will eat chicken nuggets and meatballs but not pieces of meat.

I am old. I am a mom. I say let him go hungry until he eats....there are so many options to eat with your fingers on the ships and the children's menu.

Other than that, just pick up some peanut butter tubs from the breakfast buffet and ask for bread. Problem solved!

They can make a pb sandwich. After 12 days on a ship thats all I wanted and they didn't have crustables. They made me one easy peasy.
