Does anyone travel with a picky eater (my 46 year old husband)? We end up eating at the same restaurants every trip because there are way too many things he won't eat. We love EPCOT and I would love to try someplace new to eat but most of the countries are way too "exotic" for him. Does anyone know if you can request just plain chicken or steak at any of the World Showcase restaurants? Thanks!

Being somewhat of a picky eater myself, I've never had a problem finding something to eat at any of the Epcot restaurants, with the possible exception of Marrakech.

I'd suggest showing him the menu's from http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm
So he can see just what his options are.

The restaurants are very accomodating too. I have yet to see a Disney chef not be very accomodating for special dining habits, whether by medical or picky needs.
Once DH and I were in a party of adults and dined at Akershus (before it went all princess all the time). One couple was not adverterous eaters, with one being very picky. And nothing on the menu suited that person.
After speaking to the server the chef came out and made a dish specific to that one person.

My best friend is a super picky eater..we went to Japan and she said she wouldnt eat but once she got in there and realized it was just steak, rice and veggies she was ready to chow down.

Whenever we go with my friend and her husband we do alot of breakfast buffets, who doesnt like breakfast?

Most restaurants are pretty accommodating, they will leave sauces off items and substitute some side dishes.

I would check out the menus from the link that OKW Lover posted. That way you'll know exactly what to expect at each restaurant. You may be able to find something new! Buffets are also a great option as there is always food for kids on the buffet which I would think would be something that a picky eater might like since kids are the original picky eaters. What food does he like to eat? If you could share a little we might be able to tell you specific restaurants that might offer these items as well.

I was always afraid to try the restaurants that weren't "meat and potatoes" with my husband. If the description of the dish is more than five words long, he turns up his nose.

But then I started talking to him about exactly what he didn't like about certain things. For example, a place would have a steak which he does like but he didn't want to order it. Why? Because it had a demi-glaze or something on it and it was served with seasonal vegetables. Or that it was served with mashed potatoes which he positively hates. I explained to him that he could easily have the steak prepared without the sauce and he could choose from any other side that appeared anywhere else on the menu. So the seasonal vegetables could be rice. The mashed potatoes could be a baked potato or, depending on the restaurant, fries.

Then I had him look at the appetizers. Were there any on there that he could eat? Usually there was at least one. He could have that for his dinner with a salad and be happy. But the salad was listed as raspberry vinegarette. I told him he could ask what else was available.

It was just a couple of meals at restaurants with a fall back of a burger on the menu but now the man doesn't care where we go to eat. He knows he can work with the server and make substitutions to get the meal he wants. And at Boma? All it took was one vegetarian friend to start describing what she was eating and he was up there stuffing his face with all kinds of things.

He's been so successful at Disney World that he now goes to our local restaurants and makes substitutions all the time.

DW is the queen of picky eaters. There are a lot of restaurants I would love to try, but can't. I make sure that I check the menus before making our ADR's. DW will eat at the places that I select. I have to make sure they have plain grilled pork chops or chicken. She does love plain pasta with sauce, or gravy if you're Italian like me, and loves breakfast the best. We have at least two ADR's at Tony's and CP. We're also eating at PT and CR. It's a good thing that DS eats like I do. :rotfl:

I think that I am a pretty picky eater. And I can find something I'll eat just about anywhere at Disney. I ask for stuff with no sauce a lot! The oak fired kebobs at Spoodles are absolutely wonderful if you have them hold the onions and harissa. The restaurants I have been to are wonderful about altering the preparation. Try the maple barbecue filet at Let Cellier without the barbecue. It is great too. I wish I had discovered how accommodating the restaurants could be long before I did since DH and DD are good eaters and were limited by my pickiness.
