picking your cabin or VGT?

Would you do a VGT for $3200 for two on the Dream - NYC to Bermuda in October or pay $3700 for an OV that I can pick my location. I do love a verandah but I'm worried we could be somewhere noisy.

It really depends on how important picking your room is to you. Personally I’m not picky about room so GT makes sense for us when available. That being said I live near train tracks and noisy really doesn’t bother me.

Totally dependent on your tolerance to noise or other annoyances. We sailed in what is probably one of the noisiest verandah cabin on Dream/Fantasy with a young kid and still managed to have a good time. For our group, the VGT would be the appropriate choice. Reading some complaints on these boards, I get that it would not be the case for everyone.

We're also doing NYC-Bermuda in October and originally booked a verandah. VGT became available before our PIF date so we switched to VGT verandah. It went from $5400 to $4100 for 3 of us and it's worth the risk for us for such a savings.

I'm looking at the 10/7 sailing. Did you book a room in NYC for the night before your cruise?

That's the one I'm on! We are a very quick drive to the port so just coming from home. Feel free to join our group on fb, hotel recommendations have been a popular subject.

We chose VGT in Feb and will take this option from now on due to the savings. We were VERY happy with our location and it was only steps away from the inside cabin we originally booked! We went from inside to VGT and saved a few hundred dollars!!

There is an IGT, OGT, VGT thread toy many wish to read. Very helpful.

we live in MA so we could drive but we've never been to NYC so we thought we would go the day before to see touristy things. We might just fly from BOS since it's close to our house and I have a ton of miles on Jetblue. Saves us a 4.5 to 5 hour drive too. :thumbsup2

Thanks guys!
I know I should take the VGT, I'm just worried that I'll regret not being able to pick my cabin. I may be a little bit of a control freak. :rotfl::rotfl:

There are some vernandah cabins I would NOT want on the dream - especially the ones without chairs, 5188 and 5688. I've been happy with all the obstructed verandahs - not a problem for short people, in my opinion, but even saving lots of money would not be worth the risk of being assigned to an outdoor space without chairs (there is a bench but it isn't the same). Big risk? Maybe not...but...

But the alternative is an ocean view for more money. Personally I would take the risk of that verandah for less money than an ocean view.

I'm looking at one of the corner rooms so I feel like that could be a plus for the extra money. I hardly ever sit on the verandah, I usually only go out on it for like 5 minutes or so. ;) ;)

We did a VGT on our most recent cruise and I'd definitely do it again - we got a great deal which was worth the gamble on the room. I'd go for the VGT and save the $500.

well I booked one of the large corner cabins deck 7 forward. I think having all that room was better than a verandah that could have a connecting door or be above or below a common area. On our last Fantasy cruise in April the person in the cabin next to us sounded like he had Consumption (old disease :thumbsup2). One morning his alarm went off for 45 minutes. I almost had my husband go to Guest Services because I was afraid he could be dead in there. :scared1:. But he finally turned it off and started coughing again. I was like phew!

If my choice was between a VGT or an OV, I would go with the VGT every time. But for how my wife and I travel, we always have a verandah and choose the one we want.
