Just need to have enough pts for both stays so you can book one before you drop the other

Assuming you want to use the cancelled points from the first reservation, I really don't think you can. The process has to start over and re-access your DVC account to use the cancelled points.

Yeah, we do not have points for both stays... so I have to cancel first then it sounds like

I've been able to do it on one device, but others say you need two. Still others say you can't do it at all, so maybe it was just luck.

I tried it once - on a single device if I recall correctly - and was unable to hold onto the new reservation after I went to cancel the original. When I went back to it I had to start all over with the search.

Snagged the partial reservation but had to borrow 6 points to make it happen--somehow I think we'll live through the inconvenience. I feel like 7 mo DVC reservations are a lot like sausages and legislation--not pretty to watch them being made
