Has anyone done this? Just trying to get an idea how easy this is and where the baggage pickup is. Traveling with my disabled son, it would be hard taking too much carry on with him. I know we are allowed to check luggage at the station we are leaving from in Florida, but finding info on the penn station end has been really hard. I even called amtrak but the agent didnt know anything, and there is no number to call at penn station directly. Thanks!!

No clue however a little googling lead me to the "red caps"? Maybe you can get assistance?

Red Cap - Free Baggage Handling Service
In addition to self-service handcarts in a number of Amtrak stations, you can count on uniformed Red Caps to provide free baggage-handling assistance at many major stations. We recommend that you accept assistance from only uniformed Red Cap agents. All baggage handled by Red Cap is protected by a claim check

When you get off the train, go up one flight then walk over to baggage claim. It's next to Dunkin Donuts. Most likely the gate will be down until all of the luggage is unloaded. Once they lift the gate, there may be a mad
dash to get in. Someone may be at the exit area to scan your tags to ensure you have the correct bags. How are you getting from Penn Station to your destination? in

Thank you. We need to get to forest hills queens so either cab or train not sure. my son who lives in NYC will hopefully be meeting us. I went up myself by train in April and found the cab line pretty easily. I do have one more question. My 9 year old son has autism and I was wondering if there is an alternative to using the escalator. We were practicing in the mall yesterday but it was challenging for him. Of course I will be there to hold his other hand but just wondering.

I've only used it for short-term baggage storage, but it's easy to find. I think it's right next to the entrance/exit to the platform for tracks 5/6. Once you get up the escalators or elevator, it will be to your right. It shouldn't be hard to spot, but if you miss it, just ask any Amtrak employee. All the Amtrak platforms are in a line across. Remember - this is all underground below Pennsylvania Plaza and Madison Square Garden.

I found a pretty good description, including a layout of the Amtrak area (the map doesn't show the 5/6 escalator):

No stairs, but each platform does have an elevator.

leave it to the DIS to provide me with more helpful info than I could find anywhere online. Thanks so much!!!

NY Penn Station is a maze. I frankly wished I'd researched the layout before using it. Have fun and be safe.
