Picking a home base...

We typically travel to Disney in February. Is that DVC low season or high?

We will also consider October and will want to try December at some point, but for those exceptions we will likely plan further ahead. February will be the typical time for us.

Thanks for the information. I'm itching to offer on a resale contract, but I want to get all the information I can first.

October through mid-Jan (following the marathon) are pretty busy for DVC. Early Dec requires booking at your home resort at 11 months out. Spring Break and Easter are also busy for DVC.

What would you define as "spur of the moment?"

We typically plan 3 months in advance for Disney, though with DVC that might change. On our most recent trip at the end of April we considered DVC and the guide offered to change our AKL SV hotel room to a DVC AKV SV room so we could use our points if we bought over the phone. That seemed kind of last minute to me, but we also travel at low season (no kids).

Thanks

Guides have access to undeclared inventory in order to close sales. Its highly unlikely that room would have been available 3 months out once you were a member at any time of year. Due to lower point costs and smaller supply, standard view rooms at any resort are in high demand and go early.

I agree, buy your favorite place if you can afford it, and then use points elsewhere when wanted. We have had no trouble getting other resorts, but we book at 7 months and have only done it twice

Your home resort matters if you are booking from 7 to 11 months in advance. All points are equal from 7 month or less.

I always advise: buy at the resort you want to stay at if you plan to book more than 7 months in advanced.

If you are not a planner and do not plan to book more than 7 months in advance, buy the most economical property.

All of the Disney Vacation Club Resorts are Great. Some members love certain resorts, some members love them all. Regardless of were you stay, you can expect an excellent vacation with outstanding accommodations and life long memories.
