Oh, I didn't say they should or shouldn't. I was just saying what I've read on here so OP can be aware and know to expect anything cause there appears to be no continuity in the policy. From what I've read, the issue that people complain about most seems to be when families with young kids (but too old for family boarding) don't buy EBCI and end up in the C group because they didn't check in on time and then their 5 year old is rows away from mom or dad. Again, not stating what the attendants should do or shouldn't, just saying what I've seen floating around on here. Their airline, their policies. If you don't like it, then check in at T-24, or buy EBCI. Still don't like it? Fly another airline. But for us the "free" bags are a huge incentive, so we are trying them out. We decided to fly SW even though we are a family of 4, with 2 kids 3 and 6. Sitting all 4 together isn't a big deal to me. Sitting 2 and 2, even if 10 rows apart, is ideal and we've purchased EBCI to increase our chances of getting be sit 2 and 2. We also plan to head to the very back of the plane if necessary. But I know if were in a pickle, that DD6 could sit in front of behind DH or myself as she's flown many times before. As long as DD3 is with one of us we'll be fine.
