Pick an office

Which office would you choose?

  • Large office with a window that looks at a brick wall.

  • Smaller office with a window that looks onto a nice street.

  • You get an office? Cube city, baby.

Ahem. Once school starts, the DISing will be drastically reduced.

I need enough space to hold an obscene number of books and conferences with 3-4 students at a time.

Based on this comment, I'd go with the larger office. While attending law school, I was lucky never to have wound up trapped under a pile of books and documents while visiting a professor's office. I'd err on the side of student safety.;) Of course, having a cramped space means they'll be out of your office sooner.:rolleyes1

I voted for the larger office, but for me it would depend on how far away the brick wall is. If it's far enough out that I could get sunlight in the office, I'd be great - if it was way up close to the window, it might bother me enough to take the smaller one.

I'm in cube city now, but would prefer a larger office with no view. I need more space for all my junk, and I would probably be distracted by the comings and goings on a street.

I'd take the big office. Right now I have no view, so I wouldn't miss it.

I think I would like the large office. I like the extra space and the window to the street would be a distraction.

You didn't say whether these offices had doors that lock on them. That would be a key deciding factor. I want people to be knocking on my door before they barge in on me.

Oh, and I want them to call me Boss. :cool2:

I love my office. It is average sized with a window, but they let me have my fish tank so I am happy to have pets here with me.

I voted for the smaller office with the window. I would die for a nice reading nook by the window. I assume besides visiting with students you will need to read papers and such. Why not have a nice place to wield your red pen?

I talk to enough brickwalls all day, I certainly do not need to stare at one too.

Your indecision juxtaposed with your name made me laugh. Thank you. :lmao: I also like the idea of moving people along.

I could never have a fish tank; they cause me stress. I live in constant fear of witnessing a fish death.

I do like the idea of having a comfortable place to grade. Grading is such an onerous task. I don't use a red pen, though. Red makes the paper look like it's bleeding.

Thank you to all who have posted.

Aw, that's sad. I find students to be rather obtuse at times, but certainly not as bad as a brickwall. I'm sorry. That must be tough.

I voted A. If it's big enough it doesn't matter what the view is.

I'd go for the larger office because I don't care about looking at a street. Now if the choice was smaller office with a view of the water (ocean, lake, etc.) I'd have to pick that. But generally it's nice to have more space.

So you are saying size does matter? :confused3

Not always, but in this case...yes.

Though one must take into consideration what the office will be used for before one decides what size will be needed.

About 3-4 feet shorter, but the smaller office comes with a little raised platform area in front of the windows that can serve as a reading nook .

I was going to say the larger office with the view of the brick wall, but you've made this one sound so cozy, I changed my mind.

My actual office has a large window that overlooks a small square in the center of the building. There's just a little grass growing down there. I can't figure our how or if anyone could get to this small outside area...unless of course I throw a chair through my window (it doesn't open), and jump.

I picked smaller office with view, even though it was hard in the spring/summer having a beautiful view and not being able to go out and enjoy it.

View over space. The more space I've got, that's just the more cluttered I am.

I like sunlight, so I'd take the smaller office with the view. Whatever that brick wall you're looking at is, it would block the sun. :(

Wow, again, thanks for all of the replies.

I agree, Cool-Beans, that sunlight is precious to have. My current window looks across an alley into a brick wall. The window is so sheltered, you can't tell when it's sunny, raining, or snowing.

Looks like I'll be changing offices...just days before classes start... how timely.
