Pick a Pearl

Can anyone tell me about this in Japan?
I would love to do this on our next trip. Can you just pay to pick the pearl or do you have to set it (meaning in a necklace, earring, etc).
Does anyone know how much it costs?

It is $17 tax included to just pick the pearl. You go to the cashier and pay first. They will give you a number. When your number is called you pick an oyster. Everyone says to pick an ugly, hairy one! Then they measure it and play drums. My DD9 and DD10 both did this. DD9 got a 8 3/4 mm pearl!!!! DD10 got a 6 3/4 pearl but with a beautiful sheen to it. Because my youngest daughter had such a large pearl, we did get a setting done there. The rabbit I think it is called. It was an extra $17. The oldest daughter bought a Hello Kitty cage off ebay for her pearl.

I've been keeping up with the posts about this and from what I've gathered it's around 17 dollars to pick the pearl (sometimes you get lucky and get twins!) and no you don't have to have them set while there. I think most people are buying the pearl cages from an on-line auction place for around 5 dollars shipped. Hope this helps. Breeze

IT is so fun to watch them do this!!!! That is by far my favorite store in all of EPCOT !!! Have a blast, and get a pearl!! Also get a Japanese fan and they will wright your, or your kids name on it in Japanese for free, they are so cool!! I have gotten one every year since i was 6.
